Separating forks on CB125
« on: May 19, 2013, 02:01:06 PM »
Trying to change the fork seals on my 1975 CB125S. I assume the forks are stock, but I'm not sure. They have dust caps, not fork boots. I removed the screw on the bottom of the fork leg, but the inner tube won't slide out through the seal.  I'm assuming it's the type that requires the slide-hammer technique to pop the seal out but mine are not budging at all. THey've been soaking for 2 days in PB Blaster, and still no movement.  Any tricks to getting these forks apart?

Thanks

I have pulled CB100 and CT90 forks apart and I think you have a snap-ring washer to remove and then 'hook' the seal and pull it out.  A properly sized driver or piece of pipe helps to install but little effort is needed.

I got it. I had the snap ring out already. It was just a matter of breaking the seal loose. Some PB Blaster and the heat gun loosed it up enough for the slide-hammer technique. I've also determined that I have 1978 forks on this bike, so the seals I have are the wrong size. Now to figure out the fork oil capacity.
