Looking for low profile clip-ons
« on: July 30, 2006, 05:00:34 PM »
Fellows,

I am looking for some low profile clip-on bars for my bike.  By low profile I mean the fork clamps.  I wish to mount them above the top fork brace.  So far I have found very little and some that I have found are not made for 35 mm forks.  Is anyone running Woodcraft Clip-ons, they look like thay might work.

Thanks,
Sparty

The clip-on's I got off Ebay have about a 1/4 inch of material above and below the actually "bar" that comes out & holds the controls.
(Let me know if you need some close-up pics...)
I am guessing you could take that top part and cut/machine if off to get a smoother look, or something along those lines.
I was planning on doing that with mine, but with my bike being so low, the fork tubes sit flush with the top of the clip-on's
(& I am fine with that ;D)

I have a set of 35mm clip ons that I bought for my Cb550 cafe project but I decided to put the front end from a CBR600F2 so the clip ons won't work.  They have only been mounted once to check for fitment.  The were made by MG Performance.  They are very nice.  I paid $115 plus shipping.  If you are interested I will sell them for $75 plus shipping.  Let me know.  I can put them on Ebay at a buy it now to simplify the transaction.

These are the same (if not VERY similar) to the ones I have on my scoot...

Good stuff  ;)

Yep, those are the ones.  I called MG to see if they would custom make a a set of 41mm clip ons because I really, really like the others that I bought.  They are definetly nice.

Get yourself some 35mm adjustable Tommaselli clipons.  Low profile mount so you don't have to lower the front end too much and you gain adjustability making clearing the tank and a comfy riding position easier to accomplish.  They run around $100 or so.  Some sell for more, some less.

No offense taken - this time !!  ;D

I believe the fork diameter is 35mm for these bikes, so i would guess a smaller clip-on
wouldnt be able to "tighten down" enough to seat properly ? But, whats one mm gonna do ?

Your guess is as good as mine their junkie ...

think that one out - the smaller would work because the bracket  would actually never close all the way and so you could tighten it as needed - the larger ones would not work because the bracket would close before tight around the fork...

The clamps are shaped for the diameter of the fork tube - a 34mm clamp wouldn't fit at all on a 35mm fork unless it were forced to be re-shaped around the tube.  I wouldn't dare do that, especially with a cast aluminum clamp.  Not when a break could kill me.

www.pro-flo.com  I've got them and they are sweet. If you put on clip ons, you may have to shorten the throttle cables. Not fun but can be done.

on the topic of shortening cables:

recently i snapped my throttle cable right at the grip retainer nut jobbo thing at the throttle slide end - i had done a kind of funky routing job due to extra length and it only lasted about a week before it broke...

so, i call my buddy up and he comes and gets me and we take it back to the shop and he showed me a cool little trick.

he has these little cable end-nuts, i believe he said he got them from a scooter supply place, but basically all we had to do was cut the cable down to where we needed it and then thread it into this nut. then you tighten the nut down and clip off the exess wires.

the beauty of it is, this nut is the same size as the cast aluminum bit that goes into the throttle slide...so it's a 1-to-1 fix and makes shortening cables a freakin' breeze.

i've been riding with this for months now.

anybody else seen these?? i looked for them (online) but haven't found them yet...

More expensive than the adjustable Tomma's and they don't sell 35mm  ???

Well I'll be... I should have ordered a couple of sets last time. Sorry for the inacurate info. IMHO the Tomaselli adjustable clip ons are junk. If you are really musclin' and hustlin' you can work 'em loose. Wasted part of a track day by having to pit and tighten every three laps.

Okay,

How the heck do they mount?  Looks like the weld on the one clip-on is really boogered up.

Check these out...

They are actually for the CB 350 twin, not the CB 750. The Dunstall CB 750 set looks like this and mount to the top fork cap with a bolt.

Now I get it..... :P  My brain was fried in the sun today. 101 in my back yard!  PA weather is so nuts.  We freeze in the winter and boil in the summer, but our Fall is awesome = excellent riding weather!

Rickman did some touring clip ons which fitted under top yoke with a high bar, dont really know how to describe it. came up at about 60 degrees then flared out to bar shape
