Installing Cylinder Sleeve O-Rings
« on: April 12, 2019, 04:41:08 PM »
Is there some kinda trick to installing these things? 79 650. Gasket kit is from David Silver. The size is right as far as I can tell but once I push the ring in it expands and I'm left with a little dingle hanging out.

They do look thicker than normal. They should be tight enough where they should have to be “rolled” down the sleeve and pushed into place. I remember mine expanding and getting a little dingle but I just evened it out across the entire o-ring.

Aftermarket o-rings many times aren’t correctly sized but will just about work.

In case anyone is reading this later, the trick is to install them evenly like Dave said. If the ring is a clock, push in 12, 3, 6, and 9, then 2, 5, 8, 11, etc. Then smooth the remaining bumps. I used a shepherds crook dental pick.
