The work continues
« on: May 20, 2013, 09:00:58 PM »
I decided that my clubman bars were just too low for my regular 60 minute commutes in chicago traffic so I ordered a set of drag bars. My back is bad and the clubman setup was not helping my cause. I threw them on tonight and all was right with the world until I went to reattach the MC and my new Slingshot clubman length ss brake line was too short. Not the end of the world as I figured it would be the case. I just let it hang and shot Shaun an email asking if I could just order the top hose. Went back out to the bike and while twisting on a new grip, I snapped the pull throttle cable. Now I have no throttle or brake. Good news is that I don't have to worry about stopping since I can't get going :-\

2 new throttle cables are on order and waiting to hear from Shaun.

PO had modded my handle bars, but I was going to order an SS line when I replace it. Did you order form slingshot?
Is having a longer line really that bad for stopping? It seems like the fluid moves regardless of the length of the cable.

The difference in line length, as far as being longer is not an issue, Just a bit more fluid to fill the lines. It won't make a lever spongy or not work fine

I originally ordered from slingshot, good place. I went to lower moto bars and was isht out of luck and needed a shorter line. I was in a time crunch so I had a local hydraulic place do it. Slingshot makes a good product and service is good because of his obvious familiarity to the bike and attention to detail

I tried some drag bars in the stock clamps and just total interference with pretty much everything that mounts to the bars, i found some bars called an "M" bend bar. they appear to sorta be between the clubmans and drag bars. this is a UK supplier but i have seen knockoff M bars or the norman hyde stuff on ebay.

Norman hyde bars fit great and work great and as such carry the nice price tag. You would probably find them really comfortable though, much more so than generic bars with the lack of comfortable pullback

I really like the drag bars  :o, handle bars! I went with them on my 550, because I had no plans for rear sets. I don't like the bar-end-mirrors. I feel like I'm riding a cat with long whiskers! The mirrors function well, but it's no fun riding into the garage, between our cars.
It's only a matter of time. One of them is getting scraped.

The bars are comfortable though. I think you'll like them for your commute. I rode 150m, in a day, up around the lake, and had no soreness, aches, or pains.

I did order from slingshot. The lines are really high quality and they make a huge difference in braking performance. The length does make a difference too, if it's too long it can kink or not bend how it should. If too short then, well, like in my case, won't reach the master cylinder. I would highly recommend slingshot.

If you had bought some "superbike" bars you would be even more comfortable.

I know. I still wanted a lower look. If these don't work, it's an easy swap/upgrade. I'll do a couple hundred mils and see what it's like.

Well.... You guys were right. I ended up going with the superbike bar after installing the drag bars and doing a hundred miles. Also got Progrip 719 grips. All in all I am pleased. I should have done this from the git go. Will post pics tomorrow.
