CB750K5 mysterious clanking sound
« on: May 20, 2013, 12:14:19 PM »
Hi guys,  I've been pulling what little hair I've left out trying to identify a "clanking" sound coming from my bike. The following areas have been checked and eliminated:
kick stand, center stand, exhaust baffles, drive chain and swing arm play along with rubber hammering every single item on bike for looseness. When it first occurred I would have bet anything it was the side or center stand because that's the exact noise it was making......................to me. If anyone has any suggestions as to what else I might check it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your attention and ride safe, Dave Sharpe
ps Also, if anyone knows how to reach "K5owner" or how to locate his engine build pix pls let me know. I've sent him a message thru the forum...............at least I believe I did.

Is it the center stand hitting the swing arm ?   There is that clunk sometimes
I added rubbers to eliminate it.

Flybox, It seems to me that I hear the sound more often at around 3k rpm and hitting only certain bumps in the road. I know the "certain" part makes no sense but it doesn't always make the sound on all bumps. Don't believe it's center stand because I've actually strapped it to the frame with ratchet strap and it made no difference, but that is actually the type noise it's making for sure.
Thanks guys

I am friends with K5owner, will let him know someone wants to contact. As for the clunk is it possible that it may be coming from the front end like a caliper rattle maybe or have you isolated the sound to the midframe area. Is the bike stock or modded ? Are you running a 4 to 1 exhaust etc.

Thanks ekpent for the heads up on Dave's request (PM sent)

Apologize for not staying current with the forum. Been spending my time restoring a '71 CB175 (finished), and a '72 CB350, current project (rest-mod cafe).

Dave, good luck with engine work & solving the clunking sound.
