Had to have my head shaved down as it was bowed in the center,(72 cb750k) have a wiseco 836 kit to slide back onto the bottom end and was wanting to see if i need to get thicker base gasket as it was cut down and can i use the head and base gasket that came with my cycle x complete gasket and oil seal kit or do i need to use a 836cc gaskets?Never built a motor before and don't want a compression issuse or a over heating problem.Thanks

You must have a head gasket specific for the 836 bore.  Set what you have over the bore and see if the holes in your gasket are bigger than the bore. The base gasket does not change.

For the compression ratio: I've been working on the same issue, so here is what I've found out.  You want compression around 9 to 9.5 for ease of use and peace of mind on a street bike.  To calculate your compression ratio go to a web site like this:

You need to determine the size of the combustion chamber in CC or ML.  Methods for that can be found on the web, or take it to a shop that works on race motors and ask them to do it. 

Once you know what your Compression Ratio is, you can add thicker base gaskets.  In my particular case Buzz at Dynoman recommended adding a 0.010 steel gasket to the stock base gasket to decrease the CC and increase piston to head clearance:

Early K heads have a lot of material in them and are a problem higher compression pistons.
