Borrow master link chain tool, Toronto GTA north
« on: May 22, 2013, 02:30:35 PM »
Installed a new chain on my CB750 K5, cutting off extra links to get the right length, but it has the type of master link that requires a tool to mushroom the rivets. Has anyone got one of these tools to lend? Everything is ready to go and the procedure only takes a couple of minutes. I can't ride until this gets done. I live in Uxbridge. Thank you!

Better to just switch to a removable master link. Cheaper too

I agree, just use a regular master link. There is nothing wrong with them.
They have been used for more than 50 years.

If you need to buy the master link, try getting in touch with Glen at Flying Squirrel Motorcycles. I was in there last week and he has a variety of them.

Check out DT Powersports (just north of Davis on 23/Lakeridge) as they have a good selection of master links with a clip.  They fitted me up the other week with one for my SL100 (lost the master in the bush after forgetting to clip the master properly when replacing the rear tupe that had blown :-[).  The link size should be on the chain (stamps on the side plates) - just take in a section you've removed or the whole chain so they can match it up.

Thanks, but I bit the bullet and bought a tool. Apparently clip style master links for that size of o ring chain are not available. I asked at DT power and markham Honda.
Could have saved close to $200 if I had bought a non o ring chain.
