There is no answer.    Eventually, you have to strangle them.

Goofaroo is right, there is no answer.

I have two daughters, totally different, my wife's counsel has saved me from losing it numerous times, oh the stories the girls can tell of their crazy dad.  Walk away & try again tomorrow...if you can.

Oh, you're not suppose to strangle??

Actually, our daughter is pretty good. She's pulls crap on my wife, but not me.

3 daughters, 29, 25 and 18 yrs old, and a wife.    I have spent a lot of time in my garage over the years.
I was always afraid I was the one that would get strangled!

All the girls have their own places now, so I think I am safe.

Man I could write a book. Many nights my wife spent crying over my daughters' behavior,
and I was on the edge many times.

But once she went off to college reality kicked in and now
I could not ask for a more caring, nice, sensitive, beautiful daughter
whom calls her mother Every Day,
helps her brothers in college financially and emotionally,
is gainfully employed and volunteers her expertise to financially downtrodded people,
constantly makes me smile, laugh and delight in her company.

I honestly do not know how we survived as a family when
she was between the ages of 4-18.

I love her now like a father loves a daughter,
but it honestly was not always the case.

peace,
michel

Mine just turned 16 this week. She became an alien at 15. She opened up her mouth to me the one and only time last June. I kicked her out and told her to go play those games with her mother as they apparently do. I love her but once was too many. Can you believe I expect respect?! What kind of parent would expect such!!

I'm the guy who sits in an office and gets paid to listen to all these teenagers talk about their problems...

The way I see it is that a teenager's job is to learn how to be an adult. Sometimes they just aren't quite sure how to go about doing it in a nice way. Sometimes it can be stressful for us to sit back and start letting older children start making big choices for better or worse. Ugh and their attitudes!

But yes, our own children can drive us crazy!

As an aside, it is not always a good idea to coach your daughters' soccer
team if she is hyper and only listens to adult non-parents. :o

Ahh girls there's one they don't tell you about in the standard manual of arms or engineering orders for that matter, I will admit that at 73-74 after much rehashing and thought that I'm really not sure how we managed. I do know that there were major blow ups at various times that have left me scarred and profoundly cynical about young females, some of the fights brought out solutions from "I don't give a #$%* whether you can find some thing to wear or not the school bus will be here in 1-5 min and if you're not dressed you're going the way you are" and then I grabbed one and whipped her out the door in her nighty, gee after that everyone made the bus on time. Another solution at a later date was to look at a boy friend and say I don't give crap if you are getting it on you'd better be stretching it on because un-wanted babies are a no-no and if the pope says no condoms you'd better hope for his mercy because I have none and I will get you. Oh and another "no I don't work for so and so, because I'm a looser and a screw up" Live With IT. Yes goddam gypsys completley unreliable now days, never around when you want to get rid of girl children and still if you keep on buggering that up you'll be out on the street corner turning tricks to pay for it. I could go on for hours but you get the idea. I'm also sure that childrens aid or a shrink would be horrified but tuff #$%* as the saying goes.

I have three daughters.  One is a doctor.  One is a hippy who lives in Austin is covered with tatoos and plays roller derby.  One just graduated from college.  Life is short and after 8 or 9 they are set in stone.  Do not let them take advantage of you if it bothers you.  Remember life is short and the object is to have everyone gathered around you when you die crying.

Disagree Wardenerd, gathered around saying ahh the old bastard did it properly, enough food and booze to supply a squadron for the wake, which should be a celebration of life, battles won/lost, laughs/tears (lots of laughs, few tears) profane language/poetry, crisis conquered/ crisis lost, because for me I'm human and a #$%*up and a hero. Yes I think about the end which will be close enough.

I grew up as the oldest of 6 and the only boy.  That certainly prepared me for my daughter who is 12.5.  My wife on the other hand, is an only child.  This did not prepare her for a daughter.  I have advised both of them to read "The Art of War" and stop battling each other head on.  I hate being a referee and man oh man can they use a 2 minute minor for instigation on occasion -  Hockey reference - GO PENS.
My father actually called me when I was out of the house at 17 and in the Navy and had to confess he had no idea how good he had it with a boy.

I raised three girls. We had 13 consecutive female births in my family. They are all OK now but the youngest tested me the most. Now I have a granddaughter that is my best buddy. We play the guitar and when they come here she knows the street and gets happy, she has a tee shirt with a mandolin on it, she strums the strings and says papa.

My best advice is never give in to bad behavior, that gaurantees more of it.

Must be the freak in the bunch, mines 32, owns a home, not married. We watch hockey (buffalo) , have dinners and she and her mother are best friends. She's a bank vice president. Just really lucky. Her brother is a engineer, he gave me trouble, but okay now.

I think mothers teach them how to argue by doing so all the time. Female thing? Gotta make your point and walk away. Then it's retribution time if it doesn't stop and you GOTTA stand your ground AND HOPE FOR THE BEST  ;D
