No spark from a new Dyna S 1-2 ignition. Please Help ?
« on: May 08, 2013, 06:07:27 AM »
I just installed my Dyna s ignition and tested all the wires. I have power to both the blue and yellow wires when the engine turns over. I used a normal test light and the light was very dim. I also tested the red spliced wire in three locations at the Dyna , at the supplied connection and at the black white wires going into each coil. I have not tested to see if the red wire is switched 12v. According to Dyna if i have no spark to all 4 plugs its a problem with not being switched to 12v. I am using a solid state reg rec.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on ? also if I posted this in the wrong place I apologize

Try this first, you might have answered your own question.

You are right I will have to check if the voltage has been switched or not. If it hasn't do you have any idea to switch ? I have a solid state rectifier.

The best thing to do is follow the Dyna installation guide. If you have trouble call them up. The number should be in the guide.

This give you the T/S for the DYNA-S and others.

The RED wire from the points plate gets connected to the BLACK with WHITE stripe going into your coils. If this is STOCK wiring then it is a SWITCHED 12v wire. I just returned a DYNA-S for the same problem ,no power from the pickup coils on the plate to cause the coils to fire!!
You said 1-2 ignition? Is this a CB750 , if so it should be 1/4 and 2/3.

So I went through and tested all of the wiring and everything seemed to be working fine and the way it should. So I tried testing the spark plugs on the engine case and got nothing. Until I moved the plug about a 1/4 inch off the side of the case and it would arc off the engine and then worked fine. I am at a loss the only thing I can think of is that the coils are done. Any thoughts ?

I finnaly just brought the bike into my mechanic he said he had to fix the wiring. Any ways it starts and has spark now.
