cb550 clip on handle bars and clutch cable -_-
« on: May 27, 2013, 08:50:22 PM »
does anyone whos running clip on handle bars with there cb550 have any trouble with stock clutch cable?

the one i ordered for the cb550 from pro motion for the 550 just seems long or maybe its the clip ons. i just cant get it tight unless the cable is backed all the way out by the clutch case and backed all the way out at the lever.....

How does your new cable compare to your old cable when laying side by side? Does the new one have more cable hanging out of the sheath?

Ah, that's a bummer. Maybe someone with a 550 can measure up the free length of their cable to verify you recieved the right one. Good luck dude.

You need shorter cables with clip ons. At least I did. Motion pro makes them, quite common.

Shorter overall cables may help with the routing of the cable when using clip ons,but the free length should remain the same.

Did you lube your motion pro cables?  They are different from the Honda Oem cable and need to be lubed.  Hopefully that solves your issues.

Yes, I have a 1975 CB550. It's going on 2 years since I put my bike backing the road, so recalling the part #'s is kinda hard. I ordered the speedo, tach, clutch and throttle cables from Dime City. If I can dig up the old order, I will post the part #'s for you. The good part about DCC is that they're pretty easy  about returns, so if you order the wrong cable, they will exchange it.

+1 thanks. Dont worry about the part # i dont want to inconvenience you ill just take some measurements and do some more reading. there must be something im messing up. i doubt we are the only 2 people running clip ons

I think I have the same problem. The cable I ordered is too long, it must be for US bars as UK are lower.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
