I found out the filters I always use were recalled due to a problem with them plugging up if any moisture is present. I've been chasing an intermittent problem and of course buying the same filter repeatedly. today I pulled the fuel line from the carb tee on my K0 and nothing would flow. I blew through the hose and made bubbles in the tank. Still nothing, I forced air into the tank from the top and it started flowing. Then I re-checked inside the tank and took the petcock apart. Aside from no screen it looked perfect. Finally I knew it had to be the filter.
Parts guy said they had to send them all back. I 've been fighting this for two years on two bikes. I rebuilt the petcock on the F and removed the filter, it's been fine since, should have figured it out sooner.

I also have "fixed" several bikes since last summer by removing their fuel filters. I'll bet they were the same ones.

I can post a pic. It's just a generic looking filter, 1/4" and 5/16" It's so strange looking at the filter, seeing nothing in it, blowing through the line, yet fuel won't flow out with a full tank. Kinda warped my mind for a few minutes. I wasn't drinking either.

Are you talking about a after market in line filter or the in tank Honda filter?

The ones I experienced were labelled' "K&L", or something like that. Looked nice, had an angled spigot on one end and straight on the other. I saw the same thing described above: unplug the filter from the downstream hose, turn on the gas, nothing flows. Pull off the filter, get a wet shoe(!). Weird.

Guess you won't have to worry about dirty gas if you can't get any !! Do you have any workable suggestions Mark for Folks that may still want to run filters ?

Sorry if I worried people needlessly but if you've been chasing this it's frustrating. Mine were straight through, plastic container, paper filter, they are a universal type and fit 1/4 or 5/ 16". I tried to post a pic from my phone but didn't get it done. I'll have to take one with my camera. I'm now using a similar filter sold for lawn mowers etc. just a different brand. The one I took off has no name on it that I can see. They were on the back shelf at an Advance auto store in a white box. The ones out front on the display are not recalled. They are in a bubble pack. I wish I knew the brand name but I tossed the box a long time ago. Parts stores re-box anyway.

I have never used any thing but the in tank filter. But now I am wondering about my John Deere I do use those filters on it and it hates this gas worst than my 750.

Ok, Don think I know the one you're talking about - Wix 33011, or the similar ones from different companies. http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Wix-33011-Fuel-Filter-/76980696. When I sold auto parts, we used to call these "Volkswagen filters" because that's what they were cataloged for, but everyone used them for something else (tractors, motorcycles, etc etc).

Surprised to hear the bubble packed ones weren't the culprits. Usually the blister packed stuff were the lots that got damaged at the manufacturers (pallets hit with forklifts, production runs out of tolerances, etc etc) At least that's how it used to be.

The ones I removed looked like they had little conical brass sponges in them, sort of like the air mufflers you find on a typical pneumatics valve bank (if you work on industrial machinery, that is...). I broke one open: it is a sort of brass mesh. When I dipped it in acetone, balls of water beaded up and fell out of it (which may have 'fixed' it?) as if the water was adhering to the brass. The other one from one of these bikes would let me blow through it, feeling only a little resistance (and a gas-burned tongue), but fogged up completely and stayed that way for an hour or more afterward. Maybe there was some sort of impurity in the brass? I have also seen quite a few bikes where these filters work OK for street riding, but they definitely slow the flow for WOT operation.

That 90 degree pic is the sintered ones I was asking about.
They seem to be pretty popular.
I've only seen issues with them when fitted backwards (fuel flows into 'center' instead of around outside)
Never used them on 550~750 or when there is only a single fuel line for 4 carbs, used larger element paper (automotive) filters as I worry about high rpm flow

I've been using these 90deg sintered ones for 2000mi on my 750. No issues yet. Flow rate isn't decreased with backwards installation, but if there is sediment in the flow, there is decreased space for it to collect, and faster clogging will occur when installed in reverse....

That one looks pretty close to one of the ones I removed, but the offending one's brass cone in the center did not extend all the way to the end of the container like this one does. It was a little shorter, about 2/3 of the inside length of the plastic holder. It had the same right-angle spigots, though.

Mine were paper type filter elements. Maybe it's not so much the filters, as it is the fuel.

In Florida E10 totally sucks, if you put some in a bowl you can watch the water collecting as it condenses/fuel evaporates
