Wires inside handlebar
« on: May 25, 2013, 06:13:17 AM »
I would like to find a source for the right and left control wires that run inside the handlebar.

A previous owner mucked up the wires pretty bad and I'd like to go back to original quality. I know I can find the necessary connectors at Vintage Connections but I'd like to match the exact wire colors and sizes.

You may be better off just buying new controls. If that's not what you really want to do, you could use new wire with whatever colors you can find and splice on the correct colors (provided you have some bits of the original wires) at the connector end, covering the non-correct section with some quality shrink wrap[?] Just a thought...

What year and model are you looking for?

I might still have a set for a '76 750F

All the best,

Honda stopped putting wires inside of the handlebars after all of the dealerships had to keep hunting down short circuits where the wires got chaffed.

Reminds a mate, Brian,  in the UK that asked me to get him a new handlebar switch for an old Honda. He took one look and said "The wires are a different colour!" I tried to explain to him that the part # had superseded and that he was never going to get a new switch that was an exact match for colour but he wouldn't have it. His missus, Terry,  told me she would deal with it. Brian went away happy, Howard installed the new switch and Terry told Brian that I had sourced him a different switch. I am from the British school of "bodging" which is to say IF IT WORKS USE IT.
