Uniqueness of the 1972 cb 750
« on: May 26, 2013, 06:15:19 PM »
I got it running great in just a few days of ownership and there is more to do. I need to replace some fork seals and it looks as if my parts books is assigning the fork seal a 1972 only number.

I haven't taken the forks apart yet, but will this extra set I have here at home for my 74 cb 750 work in the forks of my 72 cb 750?

Also, I've replaced the fork seals in my 74 with simply dropping the lowers legs down. How challenging and or different ( from my 74)  is replacing fork seals in a 1972 cb 750.

Thanks all

You can swap the forks.... Do you have the rectangular form bottoms on the 72?

I'm not sure why I would want to swap the forks--- I just need to reseal the 1972s forks.

I don't know what you mean by rectangular forms.

Thanks for the reply.

Fork seals for a 74 and 72 should work for both. Be careful of the 72 upper triple tree(rhino) if you remove the forks and fiddle with the bolts.Make sure it has the "D" washers so you do not break it.

On the 72, remove the whole fork and leg assembly. After removing circlip, use the fork assembly as a slide hammer to remove seal.
I am glad you had the foresight to take your later ones  apart with the steel tubes intact in the trees. I brought that up long ago as a plus for working on these, and some folks actually suggested that it was hardly saving any time. But it sure would for a flatrate situation.

How do you fit the fork seal if you have the upper forks in the trees?
It's not like I can mount them from underneath, here's a picture of my K2 forks.

Please ! Take a look and give me feedback in my project thread, its much needed :)

Viktor, the 73 and later can be done with the steel tubes in the trees.
