My Vermont Senator at work....yeah, Riiiiight!
« on: May 26, 2013, 02:32:30 PM »
Need comments on this email he sent me.

The average price for a gallon of gas has gone up by more than 41 cents in the past five months. Supply and demand? Hardly. The price hikes come at a time when U.S. oil inventories reached a three-decade high while demand for gasoline is lower than four years ago when prices averaged only $2.30 a gallon. So Bernie is pushing for an investigation into oil price manipulation like one already underway in Europe. He also would set a 30-day deadline for federal regulators to use emergency powers to curb excessive speculation in crude oil markets. Both ideas were offered as amendments to a bill now before the full Senate. (from senator Sanders, VT email, may 23,2013)

peace,
michel

Our state senator Cantwell was pushing for congessional investigations into skyrocketing fuel prices back in 2008 when gas first hit $4.50 gallon. They discovered speculation eventhough the oil industry kept claiming supply and demand blah blah. That's about all. Gas prices keep yo-yo-ing, the oil industry keeps claiming supply and demand issues and nothing ever gets done. Big surprise. Makes me glad I ride a motorcycle.

The States need more Bernie Sanders. He is one of only a few politicians I like.

I wouldn't expect anything less. He is a self-described Socialist.

Oil is priced in US Dollars. The US Dollar has dropped 50% in value since 1985.
The Feds (R&D alike) pumping cash has de-valued the US Dollar by 33% over the last 11 years.
There is hope. The US Dollar has gained 7% since late 2011 as other currencies are also being de-valued.

Unfortunately, that does not equate to 50% - 7%. It is still down 46.5% from what it was in 1985.

Spot on.  But no worries, US has a lot of trees, they can keep printing money forever.
