CB650 runs smooth while choked.
« on: May 26, 2013, 09:51:26 PM »
I have a 79 cb650 (my son's). I have to keep the choke pulled to get smooth operation out of it. Took it out for it's first run last night after carb rebuild over the winter. It had the choke issue before I started on the carbs. It seems to be somewhat underpowered. Aside from the lack of pep and the choke issue it runs relatively well. I'm going put a set of plugs in it tomorrow. Any ideas/ suggestions?

did you pull the emulsifier tube, especially yhe slow jet, these have to be taken out to clean them properly.

Does it idle after its warmed up with the choke off? How is the shape of the air cutoff diaphrams? Don't know more about your carbs other than needing a good cleaning. These have a press in slow jet. Can be removed.  Got no choke, i removed the butterfly flaps after i broke the plastic piece for the choke cable. Anyhow go check your valves as well. I sealed up my acc. pump diaphram holes on the air box side with silver solder for metal($25 plus for new ones). My pd50 stock carbs woildn't idle until i did this. You can try it if yoou want to if you decide to pull the set and clean them properly.

9:00 on the air side is the hole for those expensive diaphrams. Mine would idle good when i did this. Not perfect but it would idle.
