What's that clicking noise?
« on: May 28, 2013, 06:22:40 AM »
So, after putting my newly ceramic coated pipes back on and installing a new non-led tail light, when I shut off my bike it makes a single click noise roughly every 60 seconds. I disconnected the battery and the clicking continued for another 2-3 times before finally stopping. It's loudest up near the coils. I do have Dyna 5ohm coils with new wires and caps installed. The only thing that's changed since it started was the new tail light and pipes being reinstalled. Any guesses what's clicking?

[EDIT] This is a 1971 CB500

Well it is something that is holding a charge like a capacitor for it to still do it after the battery is out of the picture. Just what tail light do you have? If it is NON led does that mean incandescent ? Like oem?

This one:

It's an incandescent bulb and grounds through the light housing to the frame. Since I had the ground wire from the oem tail light I connected to straight to the new light's mounting bolt to ensure a solid ground.

I can't listen to the clip but .......... Could it not be something contracting as it cools? The headers may the a tighter fit against the finned parts now they're coated, they will cool at different rates and could make a ticking sound.

I originally thought it might be a cooling noise but I would expect that to start at a faster, louder interval and slow/quiet as it cooled. This was a distinctive click at a regular interval.
