Crankshaft seal CB750F2
« on: July 31, 2006, 07:18:03 PM »
I'm finally assembling my F2 engine, but ground to a halt when I unpacked the oil seal that goes behind the spark advancer.  Does the metal part face the spart advancer, as I think it should?

Got the cases glued together, pistons, cylinders and head all together.  Shift linkage is installed, and runs up and down through all 5.  Just put in the final drive seal and the crankshaft seal on the right side.  The starter is installed.  Cam and rockers tomorrow.

I thought the crank seal had a lip on it that goes into a groove before you bolt up the cases? (same on sprocket seal)

SH*T!  No lip on sprocket seal.  If so, then the metal part of the crankshaft seal goes to the inside.   I think you're right, Bryan.  :-[

John
Byran is correct. Those seals have to be on the shafts before the cases are put together. Plus I just read my initial response and I f'd up. The rubber always faces the outside on all seals. I apologize!!

Just ordered 2 new seals.  I hope I can get by with just splitting the cases. :-\

All you have to do is split the cases John. No need remove the clinders or head. Remove the top case bolts first, flip the engine over, remove the bottom bolts and pull the lower off. You will have to clean off the sealer but it could be worse. Seeing how you have already put the cases together once you should be able to reassemble them twice as quick! ;)
