Do I need to split the case..?!?! Cb500
« on: May 30, 2013, 06:42:07 PM »
Bike is running fine but there is a ratchet noise coming from my kicker.... It gets louder and faster as the rmps get up there....

Do I need to split the case to check this out?  If so, am I able to flip the motor over and take the lower case off while everything stays in the upper half? And if something is wrong with the ratchet mechanism on the kicker, will I be able to replace it in this state..?

Anything would help! Thanks
Matt

Are you sure that the kick start lever has returned all the way so that the ratchet has disengaged?

Yes you can just take the lower case off---after removing all the outer cases that is and some bits behind the clutch and primary shaft, check all the kickstarter bits behind the clutch first
