GASKET ON 650 ACCELERATOR PUMP
« on: July 30, 2006, 07:00:35 PM »
IS THERE SUPPOSED TO BE A GASKET ON THE COVER OF THE ACC. PUMP oR DIAPHRAM ON NUMBER 2 CARB? WE PULLED IT OFF TODAY AND I DIDN'T SEE ONE! DOES THE DIAPHRAM SEAL IT?  THE BIKE LEAKS A LITTLE GAS BUT BUT ONLY WHEN THE BIKE IS ON THE SIDE STAND NOT ON THE CENTER. AND ONLY NUMBER 2 CARB

In my Honda manual (for the '79 650) the pics show the accelerator pump cover with no gasket. The cover has a spring underneath which rides on the metal centre of the diaphragm.

Could it be that the float in that carb is adjusted wrong, causing a fuel leakage?

i have a leak it seems that it only leaks on the side stand and it seem to be coming from the acc. pump and or the float bowl(only on number2) is the bowl gasket the same on number 2 since it has the pump (which none of the others do)

The rubber of the diaphragm seals the accelerator pump "bowl" to the carb body.  There should also be a small oring in there (I think it is between the #2 carbs main bowl and the carb body)that seals the fuel supply orifice for the acelerator pump.  Maybe thats the piece you are missing?

do you have a part number for a bowl gasket set that comes with the o-ring? and a part number for the accelerator pump? these are the only problems with the carbs. The bike runs very good just has issues.

I do not know whether there is interchangeability between Euro and N.American parts numbers, but if you go here you can at least get an idea of what you are looking for. Scroll down to the 650 manual.
