signal wiring 77 550f?
« on: May 30, 2013, 02:23:37 PM »
Im trying to reinstall the turn signals on a 77 550f that the previous owner removed. the rear seemed simple enough and now im trying to redo the front. the problem is all the wiring diagrams Im seeing whether in the manual or online are showing 3 wires coming out of the signals I only have 1 on mine that are black with no further color coding, and further when I look at others on ebay they all have 2. I plugged the right one into the black 3way female coupler in the headlight, but im not sure where to go with the left and if im missing something. when I turn the bike on I get the right front signal constant on and nothing from the rear two. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The fronts are different than the rear you have a turn signal and a running light along with a ground. I don't have a print in front of me at the time but will try to help more later. If you only have one wire in the front you have the wrong signals plain and simple. I always run a dedicated ground to all my lights. The ones in the front of your bike should have a green ground at the headlight mounting bolts on those two big nuts.

If your turn signals only have one wire they are not original to the 77.  Orange is the color for left signal, orange/white is left running light, blue is right turn signal and blue/white is right running light...Larry
