Ratchet noise coming from kicker while running (cb500)
« on: May 30, 2013, 05:50:16 PM »
Finally got my motor running and bike moving down the road. I didn't notice when it was idling in the garage but shifting into gears and raising rmps, I have a loud gear noise coming from what sounds to be my kicker.

While the bike is at idle it is not noticeable but raising rpms you can here it get louder. Also when shifting gears you can hear it get louder as well...

Anyone have any ideas what could be going on here. To me, it sounds like my ratchet gear for the kickstart is not fully engaging back into (what is neutral)when the kickstart is all the way up.

Thanks
Matt

Wow, you just shed some light on my rainy day!! Thanks for the reply. I really was hoping I didn't have to split the case. What you are saying, is exactly what is goin on. So you think I will be able to do the repair thru the oil pan opening then correct..? There is enough room to do so?

I have a feeling something is worn out or not assembled correctly. The kicker works fine just has a constant ratcheting sound.  I also have a junk parts motor I should be able to steal parts off of.

Thanks again rotortiller
