Mounting a Dime City Cycles muffler....

Hey everyone,

Im thinking of purchasing a muffler like this

Im wondering if anyone has any experience mounting these?

What do I need to know before buying one, I have a 75 CB400f

I don't have those personally.  but just making sure the mounting hole is correct size go into the collector.  it doesn't look like it has mounting hole welded on the pipe, perhaps no need to mount to the frame?

Yea thats my main concern, looks like there are no holes to mount to the frame. Just to the end of my headers/exhaust...Not sure that is enough to hold.

The total length is about 18".  The pipe may be very light and not need to be mounted to frame.  Just make sure to tight it up good at the collector clamp

Just did one a week ago. You'll need a heavy duty stainless clamp, and some sort of mount welded on to secure it to your frame.  Bikes vibrate.  Hate to see it bouncing behind you on the freeway.

Well Dangit, oh well. Not a big deal to hire someone to weld me a bracket where it needs to be.

I´ve been running my 400 on that same set up for about three months and used the same Kerker clamp I had to hold the the pipe to the frame, not a perfect fit, but works fine. The muffler is loud for street use since it has little restriction, but the sound, and the looks of the pipe are a dream.

How does is sound in comparison to a kerker?

IT must be mounted to the frame. I think there must be a bracket behind where the muffler mounts to the header.
You cannot just let the entire weight of the exhaust system bounce up and down with all the stress on the exhaust port studs.

There are special blind nuts I've used for this. You drill a couple of holes in the muffler, tap in the nut from the outside, thread in a bolt, tighten the bolt with wrenches and the blind nut squishes to create a flange on the inside preventing it from spinning or falling out. Ready to bolt a bracket or stay to. Cheap and easy.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

Yeah for riding on streets and freeways in los Angeles, you would need loud pipes.

The Kerker muffler was a lot quieter since it is well baffled, mine sounded very smooth up until 6000 rpm, when it started to roar; the DCC reverse cone is little baffled, not too loud up to 3000 rpm, give it more gas and it really roars, I´m sure the whole neighborhood will notice you are arround, kind of like comparing silk with sand paper.
I will say, with the Kerker muffler is more of a street pipe sound, and with the DCC reverse cone you will have a race pipe sound.
