On the lift
« on: May 23, 2013, 08:33:26 AM »
My new shed is up and running.  Tools are in it.  A new lift was installed on Saturday.  The 70 Norton came off the lift and the CB750 is now on the lift.

New shocks installed - check
New throttle cables installed - Check
New clutch cable installed - check - works like butter!!
Rear wheel polished - check.
Each spoke hand buffed - check
Motor grime being cleaned - work in process
New Gauges installed - Check

The bad news is that I am stuck in a rainy weather pattern and will not have a chance to ride the bike this holiday weekend.

The good news is that I will ahve 3 days off to spit shine the hell out of it.

good eye.  The member avitar is before I painted the bike.  It was done in a 70 Candy teal back then.  The paint was HORRIBLE!!  I bought it over ebay.  $600 down the drain.  So I stripped ti all and repainted it the way I wanted it.

The lift is just one from Harbor Freight.  It lists for $699.  Every now and then they have a $299 coupon.  So when they had one of the $299 coupons, I bought a lift.

You have to pump it by foot like a floor jack and it takes 52 pumps to go from the floor to its max height.  No big deal unless your taking bikes on and off the lift all day.  I don't so it works good for me.

The best part of the new shop is how clean and neat it is.  It is so much easier to work on a bike when the work area is clean and organized.  Tools in use sit on the lift.  nuts and bolts all go into magnetic dishes.  I keep about 10 of them around so I can keep the hardware separated by item.  Example:  one dish for rear fender hardware.  One dish for shock hardware.  One dish for front fender hardware.  This makes it super easy to put things back together.

Then when everything is back together, all tools get put away.  Magnetic dishes get put away.  The bike comes off the lift.  The lift is cleaned.  The floor is swept and EVERYTHING is picked up.  It is such a great work space, I could not be happier.

Right now on the lift is a 75 Suzuki GT550 triple, 2 stroke.  It needs lots and lots of attention.
