How do you remove the points plate?
« on: June 01, 2013, 12:51:43 PM »
Hi people,

I'm trying to remove the points plate so I can check the advancer in my bike (CB400F), I took the 3 screws out and the plate is now free to move, but if I try and take it out, the points get stuck on the crankshaft nut, I tried opening the points and then taken out the plate but it still gets stuck on something.

Do I have to remove something else before taking that thing out?

Thanks!

Look in the center of the shaft, you'll see a10mm nut that is INSIDE the 17mm nut. Remove the 10mm nut"" turn the nut counter-clock wise. The larger nut is flanged and it looks like it has a washer on it, that nut will come off when you remove the 10mm nut , then you can remove the points plate and advancer.
When you re-install them be CAREFUL not to tighten the 10mm nut too much, they snap pretty easy.  COMPREHEND AMIGO!!

If it is not to late make a mark so you can put the plate close to where it was.

I marked the plate before removing anything, thanks for the heads up!

Also i'm letting the 10mm soak in some wd40, because one of the points from the nut is marred, so taking it out, will be fun, thanks P.O. hahahaha

You might want to get some PB blaster or mix some ATF + acetone 50/50 This works a lot better for the purpose. If you ever get caught in the rain and the bike starts missing WD40 is great for that.

ATF + Acetone, works wonders, thanks for the tip.
