Topic: Parrafin wax & leaking coils

Has anyone heard of dipping old coils into paraffin wax to seal them from bad weather conditions.  I was told this by someone years ago. he claimed he did it on his 750's coils

It seems like Wax would melt from too much heat. How about plasti-dip?
But then again... if you're experiencing a problem with rain I would suspect the connections before the actual coils

I have a Dodge van that would die in the rain. Come to find out it was Dodges infinite wisdom to place the coil down in front of the engine. It would arc out against the engine when wet

Check the points cover gasket for water leaks.  I made one from neoprene 20-30 years ago and that cured my power loss in the rain issues.

If the coils/leads have obvious cracks, seal those up with RTV

If you are losing cylinders while riding in the rain and it slowly clears when stopped, re-route the carb overflow tubes and or vent lines that run down between engine and swing arm.   One member reported shortening those cure is rain issues.
If either the drain lines or the top vent line ends get into differential pressure areas, water can be drawn into the carb bowls, causing cylinders to drop out.  The main jet feeds from the bottom of the bowl and the pilot jet feeds closer to the top of the fuel level.  Water is heavier and sinks the bottom of the bowl, making idle ok and power on runs problematic.

Well, it's been an almost solid month of rain so I havent tried any cures yet. Idon't think it's the overflow lines because if I wash the engine it's a 99% guarantee it wont start without spraying WD40 on the plug wires, and it'll run ragged for a while. I also have air filter pods instead of the original air box. They're a paper type element. I suppose the intake could be sucking in water thru the pods.
