It's amazing how many threads end up with someone gleefully talking about guns.

I thought this was a thread about how nice it is where you live...not about gun laws, regulation, etc. There's another thread for that.

Anyways...I found some roads on Saturday that are really nice in my area. Nice and windy through some beautiful tree lines!

LOL!  Reminds me of a guy I know, he was all against guns, violence, all for sharing and peace and loving, coexist and all that good siht.

Took only two guys with rifles to show up in his front yard - not sure what the story was, but that's not important  - but now the wife has a gun, the daughter has a gun and he has an arsenal.  It is always very nice theory but when the manure starts happening closer to home, all the ideals ar forgotten.

Who said they were against gun rights on this thread?
I own a few myself but I am not a gun nut that goes raving about how I can shoot anyone over a cross stare or spilt milk in my domicile.
Some people just have to take a good thing and absolutely ruin it for everybody else.
Makes no sense to me, but then again I have strived in my later years towards the middle path.

Personally I took a nice ride down small country roads in Putnum County NY. Passed   Lakes, streams, Cows, Horses. Took some pics. Went home and cut the grass. and then took a nap.

I have a unrestricted CWP and gave no thought to bringing it with me.

From my perspective some one will always have a bigger, faster, more deadly gun, whoopee #$%*, I try and avoid them, I seem to have gotten over, over kill, so I'm either growing up or getting lazy. Other thing mostly people here don't do guns, just for food or critters that are persistent.

David, we are a bunch of bikers {not 1%ers} that, through our passions have strong opinions, Xnavylfr has his, we don't all have to jump on the PC bandwagon at all and get all touchy feely, how boring, I'm sure Chuck has thicker skin than that, he is also capable of defending himself. I see no "shameful" behavior, just strong opinions {some funny}.... We have a saying down under, "get a teaspoon of cement into you".... ;D ;D ;)

My comment was not meant to offend, it was a caution. The news media and those with given agendas tend to sensationalize a Law for their own point of view. Since I am allowed to carry in several States I am interested in their Laws. I was required to take training in this every year.  The Stand your Ground Laws are not unlike the Law in several other States with a couple of exceptions. In those States the intended "victim" is obliged to retreat before taking action, with the exception of Law Enforcement who has no obligation to retreat. In in NC you can Stand your Ground and take action. In the NC law if the aggressor attempt to retreat, the intended victim is likewise obliged not to take use deadly force.

In plain English, a guy breaks into your House and you pull a piece, he runs, you cannot shoot him. He tries to jack you in your car, you draw on him and he runs, you cannot pop shots at him.
The Law is about defense not revenge.

Sometimes if you shoot someone, you fell much different about it later than you would expect.

Bobby,

I didn't have a problem with your responses on that matter. They were well grounded and staying out of NC isn't an entirely bad thing. I used to live there. I grew up in TN and lived there, went to school there. Lived in NC for about 2 years. Then Ohio for 19 before moving to AZ for nearly 8 years. Just moved back to NE TN in April.
Killing someone in self defense should be a last resort but it isn't an action you should have to go to jail and spend lots of time there and locked into legal and criminal court proceedings. In many areas of the US it is. If you shoot someone and you are in the right, you usually will go to jail until they finish their investigation to clear you. In castle doctrine states this time is reduced somewhat if initial investigation clears you it is over.

AZ is a Castle Doctrine state, as is Texas and many other states have gone that way. There was a shooting in Sierra Vista where I had most recently resided in AZ where a party of teens and young adults was going to be visited by the Police. The party goers found out and quickly dispersed and one guy went over a fence into a guy's backyard.
Well, said owner was in his 60s or 70s and felt threatened and in the dark fired and killed this fellow and he had not broken into the house or anything. Home owner didn't go to jail.
He felt threatened and used deadly force.
Personally, I think it was not a justified shooting from the account I read.  Several friends of his had various messages of RIP Shane and asking for justice in the death. No charges were ever brought against the homeowner for criminal act. Not sure if legal proceedings occurred.

Earlier this year or late last year...
Friend who is a doctor had a neighbor who was killed and wife was repeatedly raped by adolescent 16 yr old male who had been shamed/embarrassed in front of peers several months prior. 16 yr old in middle of night rings the doorbell and stabs to death male homeowner who had embarrassed him and then repeatedly assaulted his late 60s wife until police arrived well over an hour later when someone discovered the man in the doorway. Premeditated murderer... Pretty sick people out there.
Kid had been told to stay out of the elderly couple's yard by the male homeowner and done so in a way that embarrassed and offended the 16 year old male.
I didn't find out the outcome but male was evaluated psychologically and was fit to stand trial.
The world isn't as safe as it used to be when I was a kid...

Family is close where I now live, parents and siblings live within 10 mile radius. Me, I was about 1900-2000 miles away when I lived in AZ. It is green here with plenty of curvy mountain and country roads. The motorcycle safety here isn't quite as good as AZ I think because of the visibility issues the rise and fall and curves possess but it is a nice place to ride. Not as metropolitan as southern AZ so a few strikes on variety and entertainment and shopping. Mix of beauties and overweight and grossly overweight people. Seems to be more of the later than the former when I last lived here over 20 years ago.
AZ had 300 nice days a year you could ride and I lived in the mountainous region with lots of scenic riding areas and it was pretty safe for motorcycles all things considered. You would be lucky to have 150 good riding days here in NE TN with the winters and the rain. Might have a good morning commute or evening commute but have one wet leg of the commute many of those days.
Deals gap is less than 200 miles away but there are lots of nice curvy roads closer without going down to the Tail of the Dragon.

Personally, I think I prefer living in AZ.

Back on point. I live where I live because it is quiet and has a small Town feel even though I can see Manhattan from the top  of the hill down the road.

We are surrounded by three of the lower New York City Reservoirs that have great fishing and open space. The Schools are quite good, but like any Schools we have some Drugs and some #$%* ups, but not enough to really do much harm to the Town.

I grew up in the Bronx and the Wife grew up on the Bronx border. We prefer this. I tried to live way Upstate after I returned home from the Service. With some some other Vets we bought some nice land. We wanted to get away from something we never did figure out what.

What we did figure out we were not truly Country people. We got along with everyone around us, they were very good and very nice people. They were different, or we were different, we never figured that out either. Long story short, we all came back and rebooted our lives and we all did a pretty good job at it.

The wife and I found a happy medium, we can sit on the deck and and read and look at the Woods and we are close enough to the City we can take advantage of what the City has to offer.

It's OK, it really is OK.

many many moons ago:
my brother's co-worker took in one of the students from the "special school for ages 14-19"
because the kid had no where to go for Christmas time off.

Said student figured out the combination on the gun safe,
while stealing the guns,
woke owner,
shot owner (whom survives),
8 years ago in New England, USA.

My brother took his gun THAT day out to the garage,
cut it in halfon his bandsaw,
and dropped it off at the local police station.

I stilll have me guns though.

As an aside to all the gun thing once upon a time in land far away I did talk to a person who felt that guns were for wankers that if you were going to look for trouble/ what ever that a knife was a much better choice, silent, no real restrictions on it and you could get up close and personal, get the feel of it as it were, I think he was one the Burma types ( he Had a Burma Star) and it was in a discussion about his daughter that little gem of information came up, I was certainly impressed.
Any how two opinions and I still glad that I don't need to pack. Hell even the bear doesn't prod me that much, so.

If I lived anywhere I felt it necessary to carry a gun I wouldn't consider that nice and I sure as hell wouldn't be living there.  In my town you can walk down the street without too much of a worry, there are a couple of pubs to stay away from on certain nights.

All jokes aside, I respect that.

I have a friend who was aproached at a gas station with attempted car jack - my friend served 3 tours in Vietnam as a Marine, but now he is quite old and not so strong anymore.  But he had a Glock and just the display prevented his truck be taken from him.  It is highly unusual where I live, but it happens.

All the roads around here are two lanes....twisty with lots of elevation changes.

Everyone should probably stay away from these dangerous roads.

No 70cb750 he was a cockney and the guy that told me I wasn't going to make 23 because of the crazy way I drove a bike, I still haven't figured out whether he was a dangerous man or not, other thing when ever we were paraded for the royals Phillip and others used to stop and talk to him in the ranks (the Burma Star ribbon was fairly distinctive).

From what I could read, Burma was was fairly distinctive too.  Now what was the book I read on it recently?

I live in a condo on the golf course.  My youngest close neighbor is 67 and drives a new corvette.  None ever compplain about my motorcycle noises which include expletives shouted really loudly.  I know my neighbors and they know me.  Many are very old special forces retirees.  Never invade my street.

I think there was a bit of humor injected there to have others stay off those dangerous roads so they could have them to enjoy themselves.
