Glad to hear everything went well.  I'm green/blue with envy but very happy for you.  You got a great one and you seem like the type who will appreciate it.

That is something. Perfect storm of the right bike, the right PO, the right time to find it for sale, and the right new owner. Enjoy.

And I just found out it's a 19 liter tank. Never did I expect this to be such a phenomenal find and I absolutely love sharing it! I just got in touch with the barber museum earlier today so we'll see what their thoughts are.

If anyone does want to see it then feel free to make the drive! It is located in in the Saginaw-midland-bay city area or traverse city if I take it up there.

That is an amazing find. From the photos, it appears to be almost antiseptically clean, and original. It's the real deal.

It is encouraging that you bought it from someone who has owned and ridden it, rather than some "speculator" going for a quick profit on eBay. And as others have said/written, you are worthy.

Congratulations, and I sincerely hope that you enjoy your sandcast for many years.

Bob

That's the bike I saw for sale on advrider. It has all the esoteric details correct for a very low serial number sandcast (black kill switch w/o pointer, long choke lever, smooth oil lines etc). Even the #8 bolts are slightly different from later sandcasts.
Sandcasts desirability is scaled by the number of 0's (zeros) in their serial numbers after the initial 1;  CB750-1000001 thru 1000009 have the most possible desirability (5 zeros). CB750-1000010 thru 1000099 is the next most desirable group (4 zeros); CB750-1000100 thru 1000999 is 3rd group (3 zeros); CB750-1001000 thru 1003950 is the next interesting group because that's the last group w/ a left side horn (an ez way to spot an early sandcast). The last group is CB750-1003951 thru 1007413. Then there's the elusive CB750-1007414, which would make it the LAST sandcast ever made, making it ultra-desirable.
Of course keep in mind engine and frame numbers that match are EXTREMELY rare (I've only seen 1 example EVER) but the numbers are generally within 10% of each other.
Interesting point about the very early sandcasts: they came from factory w/ a bunch of parts that the dealers sometimes removed at 1st service as recalls. Which parts were not replaced? Does it have a smooth oil filter housing or skinny throttle cables? Curiously, later sandcasts share more parts w/ K0's (non-sandcasts) than they share w/ very early sandcasts like this puppy.
In my opinion its the best early unrestored original I've ever seen or heard of, and its condition in same category. I've seen earlier serial numbers, I've seen perfect restorations, I've seen unrestored originals. This example has all the right stuff.
And you should ride it, they have a wonderful exhaust note. The sandcasts are faster and much louder than K0's and later CB750's.

WOW! And just under 13K on the clock it was a rider but not a commuter, perfect!

OK I'll ask the inappropriate question: How much did you have to pay for it? Considering that they are fetching anywhere up to $41K depending on miles and VIN numbers. I am damn curious!

The advertised selling price was $25,000 before the post deleted. Certainly not a bargain, but not inflated, either.
I wouldn't be surprised if it changes hands 2 or 3 times in the next few months, w/ the price going up each time.
About 10 years ago on this forum, somebody mentioned seeing a local ad 100 miles from me about a K0 for sale for $1500. I jumped on it, drove and picked it up. I asked the seller what he paid for it. He said "I found it in a yard sale for $300". So I brought it home, cleaned it up (it was a really nice original like the one this post is about but not a sandcast) and next week trucked it to Mid-Ohio VMD. Sold it to a Japanese buyer for $4500. He then shipped it to Japan the next day and sold it for $8500, so it was sold and changed hands 4 times in 1 month.

Well it wasn't advertised for $25,000 when I bought it and I did pay a lot more than that. I paid a lot for it and don't know if I'll get my money back, but just to say I've owned it is awesome! I have been in touch with a few museums and want it to go in a true collectors collection or museum for people to see. I'm trying not to
do the typical eBay thing and have just been emailing museums and contacts but if I get nowhere that way then I may have to do eBay to reach the true buyers.

There was a pristine CB750 (don't even remember the year, maybe Flybox remembers), but yes advertised on CL for $1500 then returned on EBAY in a couple weeks for several thousand.

hewettj12 I am not a sandcast aficionado by any stretch but I think you did OK. If its something you really want and you paid a market price then you are doing fine. If things keep going the way they are you will probably further your investment.  It was in my area that the SC sold for $41K and I was impressed. There are lots of museums that will be on the look out for a bike like that especially since it was named the most influential bike ever. You should be proud!
