The photoshoot is happening this week and the photos will be taken with Rick Brent's kawasakis if he's back from England in time. I'm pretty excited!

Man, what a stellar bike you bought. It doesn't get much better than that, regardless of what you do with it I hope you ride it a bit and enjoy it the way it was meant to be enjoyed! I know I would :)

Are you friends with Rick Brett ? I have met him a few times when I'm up around the Traverse City area. He is the Triple King.

I agree with 750K. Hewitt hold on to this bike for a while and enjoy having it. This is a once in a life time bike, but still ride it some and have fun with it like you would any other bike. You aren't going to hurt it ;)

And I just found out it's a 19 liter tank. Never did I expect this to be such a phenomenal find and I absolutely love sharing it! I just got in touch with the barber museum earlier today so we'll see what their thoughts are.

James

Barber has one of those - although I will say your would probably clean up nicer than theirs is.   The one at Barber has a few question mark parts on it - which is completely understanable - they only have a few thousand bikes to keep up with.
Who are you talking with at Barber ?    My buddy has 3 bikes in there and could get you in touch with the "right" guy.   PM me if you need his contact info.

Congrats.   Absolutely beautiful.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Sadly Rick isn't back until around July 4th. I thought he told me he was coming back this week. That just means more time to enjoy the bike before the shoot! I think it'll be great to have some of his museum quality triples (he keeps them in his bedrooms, he's that cool) photographed with this bike. You can check out the photographers work at andywakemanphoto.com.

After just a few emails that basically were along the lines of "Tell me more about it and what's the asking price", whoever I was in touch with at barbers passed on it. I presume they just didnt like the price. I absolutely want to keep the bike but I want it to be seen by many and not in my garage where I worry about it every minute. I'll at least hold onto it for a little while.

Take it for a Sunday morning ride and make some sweet music w/ those pipes. Not riding it is like living w/ a super-model and not indulging in sex.

Honestly I'd loan it to a museum and let it be enjoyed by others while it increases in value, that is if you don't feel comfortable riding it occasionally. I wouldn't flip it unless I could double my investment.

I've sent off emails to museums so we'll see what they say.

I spoke to Jay Leno on the phone yesterday about it and he said he is stuck in the Vincent Black Shadow era but some of his friends may be interested. It was cool just talking to him anyways!

How did you actually get through to jay. I mean he probably doesn't answer the phone and doesn't take calls from just anyone.

Well all I have to say is Jay is one hell of a nice guy! I was looking at some pictures of his collection and then wondered how someone would go about getting in touch with him since I'm sure he always wants to know about unique cool things. I emailed his agent about the sandcast not even thinking I would get a response let alone Jay himself. The next morning I saw this email and got a call a few hours later saying "Hey James, Jay Leno here!" He said he would keep my number and email and pass it along to his friends. I'm sure he's posting on the Vincent black shadow forums about talking to me on the phone, right...?

It goes to show that everything is worth a shot!

Has anyone heard anything else about Hewitts sandcast. It was listed on ebay several weeks ago and bidding had gone over $33 grand with a day or so time left(reserve not met) and the next thing I know the listing is gone. I guess he decided to pull the bike and close the bidding ???

I hope Hew gives us the "what ever happened to" story so we can close the book on that nice bike.

If that's the case just hope it went to a good home and the new owner takes care of it just like has been over the last 44 years.

It almost seems he was here to "advertise" the bike, others have said the same of other websites he posted it on.
