Topic: Cleaning inside motor with...

hey guys, getting ready to reassemble my motor as i wanted to cure some leaks etc...

I would like to clean the inside of the motor and gbox while its open. The jugs are still off so i though that i would clean the inside of the motor while its open. Can i get my paraffin gun out and spray from under the pistons into the block with the sump off to get any debris out from hours of scraping the head and base gaskets off that could have worked their way into the rest of the motor....?

i thought paraffin would be the best option being oil based? Then squirt some fresh oil in the same way to protect the metal bits until i assemble and top up with oil.

What do you guys reckon?

Are the cases split??? If not  you could re-install the oil pan and spray in the top where the rods are then rock the motor side to side and front to back.. I know it's HEAVY,,, We are talking about a CB750 correct?? Usually there's not much sludge in the motors  because they are DRY sump , all of the oil is supposed to stay up in the oil tank. You might have half a quart drain , the rest is in the tank. I've always used STODDARD SOLVENT to clean crankcase parts.. BUT remember , because of all the little machined nooks and crannies you can' get ALL the solvent out. I'd recommend you (after clean and drain) pour a quart of oil in the crankcase before you out the jugs on and slosh it around then drain. ANY kind of cleaning solvent will thin the oil some.

I assume that what you call Parrafin is what is known as Kerosene here in the US. Great stuff to clean with and it does leave an oily film.

sorry, its a cb550. The case is not split so yes, il be going through underneath the pistons into the top and out the bottom where the sump is at high pressure hoping it will shoot all the crap out the bottom.

Yes it can do no harm. Kerosene is found in many "motor flush" products. Just blow out any excess. It would dilute the oil in any significant amouint.

perfect. so il spray the stuff in, blow as to remove as much as possible, then spray oil in until such time as i can fill up with oil and turn the motor over?

One more question, should the kerosene flush the big ends and mains oil, how can i prime the motor prior to its first start up?
