Help! Cam chain tensioner slipper fell into the abyss
« on: June 06, 2013, 07:13:16 AM »
So I'm all ready to sew up my '72 cb350f and get to riding and I go to put the cam tensioner in and the little slipper falls off the end and falls past the horseshoe that it's supposed to sit on.  I know there have been some other posts about nuts and copper washers falling into crank cases but I would like some more advice as I'm pretty new to all this.  I assume I have to get it out, so what is the easiest way to get it?
I have the engine sitting on a table.  And guess i could turn it upside down.  The slipper is mostly plastic with a little metal so i don't think a magnet would work.  It's really light so I don't know if it will even sink to the bottom if I try to flush it out.  Should I take the oil pan off the bottom.  What do I do?

thanks,
w

I would pull the PAN first to see if it was there!!! If you start moving the engine around it could end up between gears in the tranny(NOT GOOD). A magnet would an attempt but I doubt you'll pick it up, because you have a LOT of HEAVY steel in the engine and the magnet will be drawn to it.
