Question about this title...
« on: February 06, 2015, 07:55:27 AM »

The title that the PO had printed for the bike...I don't know if it was a recent mistake, or further back down the line, but it is missing a digit. It is obvious to me that at some point, someone read 256 instead of 2526 and so it was printed incorrectly.

If you were in that situation, what might be your plan? Id like for it to be correct..

I would get a picture of the vin tag and take it to the DMV and explain the situation.  I had a similar problem where my 71 was titled as a 72 and kindly explained it to the lady working at the dmv and she did a search and corrected it.  I am sure they are aware that we are only human and that mistakes can and do happen.  If you honest and don't try to hid anything there is a good chance they will work with you.

I try to avoid city dmv office and go for ones that are in small towns that are not so busy and the people working are nicer.  That helps a bunch.

I had the same problem when I bought mine. I took a picture, but the DMV office also wanted a pencil trace outline of the VIN on one of their forms. I think it took a little while longer for them to process it, but it came back correct. Didn't cost anything extra, just another form.

Kinda same thing here. The PO put down the engine number instead of the VIN. The DMV asked for a pencil tracing and picture. I explained what happened and the woman corrected it. Not a problem.
