the most stupid mistake I've ever done on an engine
« on: June 09, 2013, 03:13:41 AM »
Hello.
I´ve just reasembled the pistons, the cylinder head and so on, and I've just realised that I haven't put the camshaft timing chain around the wheel on the chain tensioneer. The only solution (apart from disasembling everything and install the original chain), is to buy an open chain and a rivet link, (I've fund one DID brand), but I don't know if it will work as well as the Honda one. It would be nice, because disasembling and reasembling everything again would be a nightmare.

I've just seen that the Honda chain is also made by DID.

Hi there. No worries with using a rivet master link on your cam chain.CB450/500 always used a rivet master on the cam chain.Don't beat yourself up too much either. Many moons ago, after completing my first engine rebuild (S90) at the Honda dealership I was apprenticing at,I left the drain plug loose.Of course it fell out a few miles after the customer left. The ball bearing crankshaft saved my bacon and all was well with a new plug and fresh oil. However,I was devastated. The words my boss had have never left me. "Jimmy, don't worry bout it,if you don't make mistakes you aren't doing anything."
Triple checked every drain plug ever since tee hee!      Rock On
