Rebuilding cb550 forks...
« on: June 09, 2013, 05:08:37 AM »
hey guys...

i am in the process of rebuilding my front forks and have a few questions:

1. i couldnt get a 11mm thick oil seal, only 10mm thick. will this cause issues? i was thinking of taking up that 1mm slack with the use of a 1mm spacer of sorts? thoughts?

2. i have stolen this pic from goldarrow, my question is, which way does the spring go into the fork? as pictured? The one end is more compressed than the other...

many thanks

Bruce

Install the end of the spring with the tighter coils  so that it's the last bit you see as you're installing the top caps. The spring offers progressively higher resistance to big jolts this way.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

The spring force will be the same either way up: you put the tight coils at the top to minimize unsprung weight.. the tighter coils weight more and would be more weight on the moving part of the fork if inserted fist.

thanks guys. A little confusing i must say hehehe

so i should install them with the compact coils at the top and the more spaced out coils at the bottom?
