LED Flasher Relay -- Need Clarification on Pinout
« on: June 20, 2013, 12:37:09 PM »
Hi gents,  I have a few choices on superbrightled.com for LED relays -- not sure of the pinout that I need.  I can't tell from the wiring diagram in the manual, and I'm not at home to check.

Can someone confirm which of these I need?  I'm guessing it's either the top or bottom option.

Thanks!

--- also, if anyone has opinions on the BA9s bulbs to go with (frosted vs unfrosted), much appreciated.  I'm thinking frosted, just so the LEDs aren't stabbing my brain at night, but if someone has used them and knows for sure, opinions appreciated!

i used these in my gauges and tree lights  BA9s-x-x-xV

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/ba9s-ba7s/ba9s-led-bulb-1-led-wide-angle/3/

90deg ones in my tree (i used the same color bulb as lense color)
...and the120 deg ones in my gauges.
not bright at all at night. the yellow is a little dim in the bright sunlight.
<=== my gauge picture is at twilight...still a little sky color in center of gauge lense.

direct fit.  not mods.
$8 auto store electronic flasher relay (standard filament bulbs in front/rear flashers)

thanks, flybox!  that helps a lot :)  i'll get the 90 degree ones for the indicator panel and the 120s for the gauge faces.  :)

but i also want to replace my turn signal bulbs with the appropriate-sized LEDs, and need therefore need to get an LED-capable relay.  but the ones they offer have the 3 pins/blades with different functions -- just want to make sure that i get the right one based on the layout of the plug on the wiring harness.

I'm not sure how helpful this is, but I just bought one that looks like the top and bottom ones (three pin) at auto zone...my stock one had two pins but after randomly connecting all combinations, the three pin LED box is working perfectly

... the female-side blade connectors are separate?

I'm pretty sure its the same...mine said "Lamp", "+", "-" on it...

It flashes great but I am surprised by how loud it 'clicks'...

Oh that buzzer deal is long gone....the actual LED flasher relay has a click to it. Or at least mine does

Mono,

Are you doing LED blinkers and indicators? I thought your original post said indicators, but your talking flashers too. I just bought my electronic flasher at AutoZone last month. It said For use with LEDs on the package. I like the fact that it blinks at the same rate, no matter what RPM you're at. Mine used to stop while sitting at a light or stop sign.

Remember, if you do all 4 blinkers, you have to do something about the indicator light bleeding over from side to side. I unhooked the indicator and installed two bright ones (that I now am in love with!)

oh that's pretty cool :)  i would appreciate some kind of tolerable sound that tells me when i'm being a grandpa and leaving my blinker on.

you could always get a Grote part # 44891, runs about $20.00. Its got 2 prongs & a ground wire. not much bigger than a reg 552 flasher plus it's specific to LEDS

Just posted this the other day on someone's LED post:

Here's what I use from superbrightleds.com :

Front Blinkers:  1157-x18-T  (Amber)

Rear Blinkers:  1156-x18-T  (Amber)

Tail Light:  1157-x45-T  (Red)

Instrumentation:  Ba9S-WHP (Cool white)

Blinker Relay:  LF1-S-PIN

*You could probably use the "CBT" models over "T"  for blinkers and save about $40, but I would still go with the 45-T for the tail light.  If you're not using the fronts as running lights just get 1156's for all 4.  The relay for some reason you need to reverse the black and grey wires if memory serves correct.  These are bright and look great.  I have the same setup on all 3 of my bikes.  This place is also good for getting replacement socket bases.

thanks for all the specifics, guys :)  i just put in an order for the indicator/gauge lights and the winker relay for now.  going to have to save my pennies for those expensive dual-intensity tail light/winker lights ;)  in the meantime, the new winker relay says it'll work with standard or LED lamps.

Hey guys, just an update.  Just got my lights today and flasher, and everything works great.  Here's the parts list I got.
