$ 3500.00 for 4/4 exhaust ??
« on: June 10, 2013, 11:46:22 AM »
OK so their hard to find, but how the heck will we ever be able to get a decent price ever again.

Some one already pulled out their hoard asking same price as the ones sold!!

Imagine what the price of used pipes are going to.

I've been looking for a 4 into 4 exhaust for my 74' CB750.  The only thing I've found on a thread here is from Benjis Cafe Racer.

I got a really nice used set I will sell you for half the price.  This is just pain crazy.  You can get a stainless steel exhaust 4 into 1 for under 700.  Stock is nice just not worth the huge dollar premium.  That said if you got an extra G note laying around send me a PM and I will take the set of my bike and ship them right out to you.

My nephew runs a Honda shop that's been selling Honda's almost since they first appeared in the US and the shop has a warehouse full of NOS stuff, not just Honda but Brit bikes as well and they have an ebay store to try to sell it. According to him Asian and European buyers who are restoring a bike and want it perfect are the most likely to pay top $ for NOS parts. He had an NOS front wheel hub for a cb550 for $300. I thought it was pretty salty but he said that stuff sells like crazy.

It was $3550 and someone probably spent a bunch to ship it too. No heat shields or fittings.

The real business opportunity is in doing better than ugly repairing on 4into 4. I've got 3 sets now and just found a 4th. The one on my bike rider is without rust through. One is patched with JB weld -- the other I hope to be able to have a guy do some good welding/brazing work on.
I really love the look of the 4into 4 and these bikes ,when stock , seem to respond to tuning so much better.

I do have a question in all this--why would someone pay that kind of money when one could probably buy a great 72- 76 cb 750 with a clean exhaust for the same price?

What will those eBay pipes be used for?

Either shill bids, some wealthy guy's personal restoration, or somebody doing a perfect K1 or K2 restoration to sell...what other explanations can you guys think of?

I refuse to pay more for an exhaust than I would pay for the bike on which it goes.

The only SOHC4 that I would spnd that kind of cash for a factory exhaust would be a low serial number K0, and that would require 300's and not 341's.

Really people are this desperate to raise the value of their bike a few bucks?  I guess it's the Concours d'Elegance of the motorcycle world.

These prices are crazy but even at the lower end there are rusted out (visible holes!) 550 exhausts selling on ebay for $150+ each pipe. They are only good for junk. With some many of these bikes out there it's a shame that no one is interested in making replica exhausts. I can't imagine that they wouldn't sell well if they were priced right. On the other hand so many bikes are "caféd" and all those people want 4-1 exhausts.

Mine is actually being cafed but I am sticking with the 4 into 4s. I love the look of them. I would love finding and being able to afford a new set. I have seen a few others that run the same thing.

I have a perfect NOS set. Make a reasonable offer and I'll consider it but it won't be 3500 clams! They are still in the packaging and are the earlier ones that don't have a whole bible of words printed on them.

Perhaps a "shill"   Most likely a couple rich dudes that need things perfect.     I bought a set of pipes from the same buyer 2 years ago at a very reasonable "buy it now" price.   They sell alot of stuff.

I looked at their listings and there are quite a few good priced parts.

Do you have good photos?
Do you communicate well? Or did you just post the photos with no comments?

OK so their hard to find, but how the heck will we ever be able to get a decent price ever again.

Some one already pulled out their hoard asking same price as the ones sold!!

Imagine what the price of used pipes are going to.

He wants a new swimming pool and you are going to pay for it.

To give you some perspective :)
In Europe a Cb750 in good shape goes for around 7500$ and up. The old guys that buys these bikes have a salary at around 5000$/month (beafore taxes) for a everyday employe and the double if you have a decent job. And if you buy these bikes for that amount of money you keep it stock, That's probably why they can have these prices.... because someone (likely in europe) will buy it :)

In Sweden we say that the Germans and norwegians buy all of our bikes since they have stronger currency and better salary.
Please ! Take a look and give me feedback in my project thread, its much needed :)

I did my first 750 which was my KO in 2007. Imagine the astonishment when I found out the 300's were still available. This no OEM exhaust deal has me upset like the rest of you. I live to restore these bikes to stock. This crapola of no more 300's or 341's is BS. The ones you do find are crap or plated in gold. I have found myself not looking for the 750 much anymore. Will just enjoy the ones I have...I do have a very nice 4-1 Mac set that came on my K3 which were replaced with the 341's. I could throw those on if a good deal comes along...but just not interested anymore. Honda has taken the fun out of it for me. I can hope someone picks up the slack for us...

Not too long ago, 2006 or 2007, the British Pound took a dump vs the dollar.    I was able to buy a set of brand new Honda pipes with baffles from DSS to my door for $647 bucks.

If I only knew then what I know now.
