Went to the dealer and ordered a new set of fibers for my '70 CB750.  The 371 nuber had been superceeded, so part number 22201-MA7-000 showed up instead.  They measure 151 mm OD, but the darn things won't slide past the ring around the outer basket.  I measure my old ones and the whole stack is 148.  My shop manual calls for 1 to be 148 and the rest to be 151.  I've read a couple dozen threads about clutches, been to a world's fair, a picnic, and a rodeo and this is the darndest thing I've ever seen.

I tried them in a couple other baskets too, and they don't fit those either.  What OD should the fiber disks be for an early K bike?  I know the make-up of the stack changed but have not read about the OD changing.

Booby pic as promised:

Got another couple of disks from bike bandit.  The straight cut disks that are 22201-ma7-000 do not fit past the band on the basket, and are bigger than the ones that came out.  BUT - my shop manual states they should be 151 diameter and they are.  What the heck?  Somebody please help me figure this out.

1970??? K0 or K1? What is the engine serial number? Stuff changed at engine 1056079.

Check this link if it works

I never let a young parts guy at a dealer look up ANY part number. I look them up then tell them what to order. They just don't get it.

Looks like they may be CB450 clutch discs??? I was putting a clutch in a 450 once and noticed the parts looked very similar a 750's. So I compared them to some 750 discs I had and they were identical except for the 450 ''ears'' were a tad longer than the 750's. Just like in your pics. Hope this helps...somehow.  ::)

Thanks For the reply fellas.  Jerry I looked at the parts fiche you linked and I have in my hot little hand the two friction disks called out.

The first is too big (the MA7).  It says use up to engine 1056079 (mine is a 104 sumthingornuther).  I also have a K8 basket and it won't fit that either. Tabs on the disk hit the rings on the baskets.  I have a basket with no ring on it, but I don't remember taking it out of this bike.  It looks like the PO took the ring off that basket?

The other friction disk fits in the basket past the ring but it has slanted cuts on the corks (this is the 371 disk) and is sure to slip.

I know the clutch got changed a few times over the years, but did the diameter of the friction disks ever change?

I am worried that some joker at Honda has superceeded the part number for the 750 clutch with the wrong (450 maybe?) part.  Two different sources (online and my local dealership) gave me the same thing.  It is also the part number called for on the site Jerry suggested.

Looked up the clutch for a 450 and shinyribs is right - it calls for this MA7 disk. Every source I look at has the the MA7 disk superceeding the old 300.

It looks like the old part number was 22201-300-000 and it has been discontinued.  Somebody replaced that part with 22201-MA7-000 which doesn't fit the hub.  May have to resort to an aftermarket friction disk.
