Topic: Canada Immigation interview

Anyone done it? I am waiting on my date, then I have to go to California or Montreal for my interview. I would like to hear from experience. I am not worried , just curious.

I have permant residency status in Canada. My fiance who is a dual citizen(candian/US) was able to sponsor me due to our common-law status. Therefore we have been though the immigration interview. If you are trying to immigrate in the same way to live in Canada in a relationship I could give you some insight into the interview. If you are trying to immigrate as a skilled worker I imagine the interview would be different from my experience.

Also, my interview was in Vancouver. It's too bad you have to travel to CA or Montreal.

My Wife is from Vancouver and is Canadian,therefore my son is also.Just waiting for the date.Vancouver makes more sense considering where I live.

Ok then it should be easy. They will probably interview you together and then separately. The questions should be pretty straightforward except for in the separate interviews you might get some whacky questions regarding minor details of your home. For example they asked us separately about where we parked our cars and what the driveway was like, also what type of heating we had. I think this is just to verify that you are actually co-habitating together in a legit relationship.

I'm sure it will go well so good luck and enjoy that permanent resident status! I love having it as a backup in case things get hairy here in the States.

Also, make sure to have absolutely every document that is on the list of required documents. They look at it all so be thorough.

When my wife and I went through this it was before 9-11 so I'm sure its changed but we got her a fiance visa then we had 6 months to get married, then my wife couldn't leave the country for 6 months. After that everything is cool going back and forth. The interview wasn't bad we did it here in Seattle. Now its called Homeland Security instead of INS. Kinda intimidating. I wish you guys luck.

So Bart  where did you get married? Here or there? Are you looking for citizenship or just permanent resident for her and the kid? Are you all plan on living in the US or Canada or both?

BTW Its kind of nice having the option to live in Canada if our healthcare mess doesn't get any better. And Whistler rocks!

BTW I think its easier getting back and forth across the border when there are one of each citizen in the car

 IF, our healthcare mess doesnt get any better. IF. You mean this isnt bad. I just want my son to have healthcare his whole life, instead of the crap insurance that denies everything that we have spent at lest 35000 in the last 3 years. I spent my youth with bad credit due to the fact I never had insurance and got sick once in a while and couldnt pay. Growing up in poverty follows you your whole life.
