Help 1972 cb500 right control on a 1975 cb550
« on: June 11, 2013, 10:04:01 AM »
Hello all working on finishing the wiring and have run into a problem with the right hand control. The bike is a 1975 cb550 and I am using turn signals, rear tail light, left hand control and right hand control off a 1972 cb500. I have got almost everything working except the right blinkers come on dont blink probally a grounding issue should be to hard to figure that one out but I cant get the starter button to work. The 500 right hand control is a bit different than the 550 control as far as the wiring goes.

-black/white
-brown/white
-dark blue

the wiring diagram I have for the cb550 is

headlight switch
-black
-brown/white

emergency switch
-black
-black/white

start switch
-green/red
-red yellow

rear stop switch
-black
-green/yellow

The 550 has one more connection I am not sure what I am missing here or what I need to do to make this switch work any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Matt

Usually it is the ground from the turn signal that is the problem! I added an extra ground wire from each signal

What color is the start button wire?  If the start button wire is white it probably just goes to ground. That is how it is on my 1971 cb750.  On my 1973 The yellow w/ orange stripe connects to a matching wire in the head light bucket.

White and blue are for the headlight. Brown/white for ancillieries. Black/white for kill switch.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Lesters got it. Blue and white are for High and Low beams. There is no hi-lo HL switch on the 550 RH control. The 500 had it.

Matt, what you're going to do is use the y/r wire   from the switch as the ground for the solenoid then run a jumper from the black wire out of the ignition switch to the other side of the solenoid.  That is what I did on one of my 400 fours that used an early model r/h switch...Larry

What Mo Mo is saying is the connections at the starter solenoid are different:-

The 550 has a ground wire and a powered when button pushed wire

The 500 has a power wire and a grounded when button pushed wire
