I'm new to the club and I have a question...
« on: August 02, 2006, 02:09:58 PM »
Hi, I'm terry and I just bought a '78 750F.  I've been around bikes since the mid 70's so it's really nice having a classic like this.  However, it's my first SOHC Four.  The problem I have is trying to get to the air filter.  Both of the the bolts on the air cleaner case just spin when I turn them.  They spin in the lower case where they're molded in.  Do any of you have a trick, hint or secret to get over this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some have welded a smaller nut on the bottom to grip a wrench onto. Others have done similar with a glue.

There have been other topics on this. Probably do a search on "airbox" and I sure something will come up but it takes some digging.

I am sure others have done something different.

It is possible to pull the airbox off without taking it apart but it is a pain.

Hey Terry...
Welcome...
Seems this is a common problem. One of mine did that.
I was able to take a small blade flat screwdriver and wedge it in between the flat of the bottom nut and the plastic housing then was able to break it loose...
when I put it back together used some JB weld in the lower case and pushed the nuts in...they have held fine since.
Just be careful and don't overtighten them...seems that's what I did.
