Front hub bearing replacement
« on: June 12, 2013, 02:48:50 PM »
Am trying to replace wheel bearings in my 1970 K0.  I know that they are staked in, have drilled down to the bottom of my comfort zone and don't want to take a chance on effing the hub up.  Does anyone have a recommendation on someone in the Dallas Ft Worth area who can do this work?  If not, does anyone have a recommendation on anyone anywhere?

How deep have you drilled? Stick the drill in and mark with tape to check for depth. You could be a little gun shy about screwing it and not going deep enough

i'm no expert, but i have replaced front and rear bearings a couple times on my 750's. the first one i was scared to drill too deep and had a hell of a time getting the retainer out, and even tougher time getting it back in. after that first one i went ahead and drilled deeper and the retainers went in and out pretty easily. i'd try drilling a little further. use a file to clean up the threads on the retainers before you put them back in. again, i'm no expert, just telling you what worked for me.
