Oil cooler lines
« on: June 12, 2013, 10:40:23 PM »
So I did a search for this, but the oil cooler thread is way too big to sift through all the information.  I have a few questions to sort out what I need to buy for a cooler setup.  This is an area I'm not too familiar with so work with me.
1. What adapter(s) will I need to connect Earl's type lines to the stock location on the engine for oil lines?
2. What size fittings will I need for the oil cooler to match up to the adapters?
3. Are there any benefits to running a cooling setup from the filter with a filter adapter as opposed to placing the cooler on the return line to the tank?

Now you're just being lazy.

1. Depends on your lines. The stock ones are metric

2.  Depends on your cooler

3. Yes. It's easier to route the hoses and mount the cooler

Without seeing your cooler and what you have planned its a difficult question to answer. I'm not being pissy with you. Sounds like you want someone to come along and do it for you.

Running from an adapter is pretty easy. I think that's how most are doing it plus you get the added benefit of running a spin on filter if you choose to go that route.

I used a cycleX adapter and an EARLs 21600 model. You have to fab up a mounting bracket and make your lines but other than that it was cake.

You CAN do great things...with enough beer.

You want to avoid changes to the oil tank lines, those threads are something like M22 and M26 Japanese Parallel Thread and it is easier to leave it be than to find or even make adapters.

Routing from the oil filter adapter is the most common solution.  Of course, there is opinion that oil cooler from the filter can lead to oil starvation at the top (head) of the engine and that's not a good thing.

Personally, I dont think oil cooler is needed, but you are the one to make the call on your machine.

No, I just don't have the time to read through 37 pages for info that may not be there.

I think I found what I need at cycle x, along with the oil filter adapter.

So you ask others to do it for you?
