Fork seal replacement - which side up or down?
« on: June 14, 2013, 03:02:58 AM »
I'm replacing my old fork seals (CB750-K6)  and found that my new seals look different than the old that did not leak. Replacement due to new fork legs.
The old ones look similar on both sides,  direction of the lips must be the same was my conlusion.
I could with help of other threads on this forum understand how the new seals should be installed.
This link make it even clearer when the seal look like my new ones.

...... primary seal lip and an auxiliary dust lip.
........ The primary seal lip, i.e. the larger of the two lips, is a contact seal and should always point toward the medium that is to be sealed. Therefore, if the primarily function is protection against ingress of contaminants, the primary lip should face outward. The auxiliary lip contributes to retain lubricant in the bearing arrangement.

Inside spring around the seal down.

Yes, for any oil seal, the side with the spring always faces the oil.
