Toronto area mechanic recommendation?
« on: June 13, 2013, 06:10:12 PM »
I'm looking for a Toronto-area mechanic with SOHC experience, for a couple of things with my build. I've rebuilt my wheels and need them trued with new tires mounted, then I will need a safety check. For a big city it seems the options for older bikes are limited and opinions (online anyway) can be mixed. Last place I used (years ago) was Queen St Honda but it's gone. So if anyone has a lead on a good place I'd appreciate it.

Try 109 Cycle. The owners both used to work at the old Ontario Honda on Queen East. Good guys.

Prospect, I've used both over the years. The gents at 109 Cycle used to drag race monster CB's back in the day. They really know their stuff. They are also much quicker on the turnaround. Cheaper as well.

Picked up my wheels today from 109. I give them a thumbs up, the work is great, and I'm going to bring my bike back for safety when it's ready-hopefully soon. They are old school guys with a good vibe, not the biggest, flashiest or high-performance shop but feels right for these bikes.

How much did they charge to true the wheels and tire mounting out of curiosity?

I thought this would be the best place to post this.  I brought my carbs for my '68 CL350 to 109 Cycle, and they didn't want to touch them.

They said "we can't get parts"...and when I probed further, they said "We don't buy parts from the internet, we only buy parts from trusted sources where we can talk to someone with a problem".

While the attitude is admirable, we're talking about a 1968 here...not a 1998...so parts are not going to be available off the shelf like they were in the '70s guys.

When I asked if they would rebuild the carb with parts I could find, they said "no".

Thus, I wouldn't bother bringing anything vintage here - despite what their website says.
