i'm sure he's fine...most of his friends appeared to be wearing some sort of personal, portable airbag. those Harley riders are a resourceful lot.

Now now, let's just be happy that the rider probably walked away with little more than a dented bike and a bruised ego!

True the Harley rider is a dumbass, but the fact that the people drove off is what makes me angry  >:(

Automatically assuming that they're going to "get their asses kicked" and whining "why did he do that?" and "what a #$%*ing moron" is not the way to handle the situation...  You have a 4 wheel vehicle.  What if the guy needed immediate transport to a hospital?  Oops, he just died because you were too stupid/cowardly/selfish to stop and help.

The way I see it is that the guy driving his big fat 4WD should have pulled over and let the guys on the bikes have a go at the twisties. He shouldn't have driven off, what a pussy. Don't those things have winches on the front sometimes, he could have really helped out.

well, if you listen to the very end of the video the driver says "i woulda pulled over but..."

no doubt the bikers were in a hurry and came up on them so fast there wasn't a place to pull over yet.  driving in canyon roads every day i can vouch for the cager and what they said... he was an idiot.  besides!  he went straight off the road!  i'd have been leaning hard before i just drove straight off the road.

the cagers were kinda whimpy but, it was their right to not stop... common courtesy or not... they did nothing wrong just witnessed stupidity at its best.

Sure it's their right to not stop, and the same holds true if you see someone lying on the side of the road bleeding calling out for help.

But screw that guy, I've got places to go, right?  (nothing personal, I'm just not a fan of selfish people)  ;D

And I agree the biker shouldn't have been riding so hard.  It's what they get for passing on a double yellow at high speed around a blind curve.  Question is, what if the bike had hit an oncoming car?  Think they would have stopped then?  I'd say probably not if their road warrior 4wd wasn't hurt.

You'll also notice the 2nd biker went off the road, but he pulled it through the ditch.  Looks like the first biker simply didn't know what he was doing and slammed on the brakes...  The first thing the MSF guys teach you NEVER to do around a curve.  The bike just stood straight up and he went flying off the road.  Remember kids...  slow down, look at your destination line, push the bars, roll the throttle on!

Having only owned a Bike for 3 weeks (not road worthy yet and absolutely no experience riding :'() I could just say that the driver should have at least stopped to see if the man was not bleeding out of his pours at least. I know that you could hear the guy on the bike speed up and probably trying to show off, but what If his brakes when out or something else happend that made him feel that he had to do that. On a Bike you only have a moment to make a choice of action. Yes I believe that If the guy was trying to put on a show that was a dumb choice, But I could see how some 4WD'ers could miss-conceive that and pass judgment (Driving off).

ok maybe the driver should have stopped, but the guy did overtake on double lines..... i dont care 'IF' his brakes 'may' have failed, the fact still remains, he over took in a place he shoudlnt have, , and the other fact is , the other guy just narrowly missed the same fate!!!!!!, there was no failure, other than over taking on double lines, , into a blind corner..... sorry, thats just dumb....

yes the drive should have stopped, but at least he was doin the right thing....  dont get me wrong, i am not a big cager fan myself, after getting hit by one that failed to use and indecator, but you really cant blame the guys for callin him an idiot?, can you???... everyday we take our lives into our own hands, when we get onto a bike, we have to have eyes everywhere, we need to look for potential problems, we DONT need to create problems..... that was a creation of a problem, and the sad fact remains that he paid for the decision he made.... alot of us dont have the luxury of those decisions, they get made for us, and we are usually the un willing recipients of the consequences....

biking is dangerous enough, without making it more dangerous..... they are both at fault, but who was more at fault falls directly on the biker.... sorry....

From what I've read on the comments in the video, this is taken from Deals Gap (Tail of the Dragon), which is a motorcycle mecca on the Tennessee/North Carolina border on US state route 129.  318 turns in 11 miles, most of them hairpins.

There is regular passing on double yellow lines on this road, and really isn't the place for a big slow RV.  And I have the distinct feeling that the kids in the car had been holding up traffic for quite a while (you notice the huge splurge of bikes that "appear" right after the wreck?).

That's probably why they kept saying, "We're gonna get our asses kicked..."  Because they likely hadn't pulled over to let others pass in the last 15 minutes!  Can you imagine riding a road practically made for motorcycles behind a gigantic slow RV?  I would probably have done the same thing (although I would have avoided the ditch  ;D)

It's a little known fact here in BC (and in some other states and provinces) that there is a traffic law which says that if you find yourself at the head of a line of 5 cars or more, irrespective of how fast you are going or what you are driving, you must pull over and let them pass. It is never enforced here but I wonder how things would be if we drove/rode with that knowledge.

I agree it wasn't his fault, but he's still a dick for not stopping.

Really, the only reason not to stop would have been if there was nowhere safely to do so. No sense in putting himself or others at risk by stopping in a potentially dangerous spot.

My 44 cents worth. (4 cents + inflation).

In this lawsuit happy society, I am VERY reluctant to stop for any kind of accident that I've witnessed.

Lawsuits and liability aside, many jurisdictions make a crime of "Failure to Stop and Render Aid".  It usually used for hit-and-runs, but can be applied wider.  Depending on the circumstances it can be a heavy misdemeanor or a felony.

I keep that in mind whenever I see some bad #$%* on the road.

I guess the sissies in the 4-wheeler didn't notice that those weren't Hell's Angels, but probably retirees on a sightseeing trip.  Are all motorcycle riders badasses that would rather kill you as look at you? ;)  I would say not. 8)

Hells Angel or not, I don't think anyone lying in a smouldering heap on the ground after an 'off' will reject help from a passer-by. And the toughest of characters are impacted the same as the rest off us when confronted by some honest-to-goodness pain!
