Just my opinion. If you want it for cool factor, do it.
If for better handling, money would be better spent on progressive springs and rear shocks.

Screw it. Do both.

The modern front end will out brake and out handle the stock setup. And you can do it with considerable less work than an engine build. Just $0.02.

Hey thanks Nick, I might take you up on that offer...but more likely I will be drunkenly carousing around Milwaukee with some old friends...and you have a very nice family.  We definitely should get together for some riding that weekend.  I will need you to show me the roads that make you want a 550 with modern suspension.

Top of triple not included. Unless I looked it up wrong, the top triple wouldn't work with the 550 frame. Is this incorrect?

Hey Tews,

I'm not sure about fitment on the GSXR front to the CB550.  Also are you running the GSXR wheel or the CB550 hub (like the Rusty Olive set up)?

My next project is mocked up with a CB750K2 frame and '07 CBR600RR front.  It uses both upper and lower triple trees from the CBR600RR, but the steering stem from the CB750 - along with necessary spacers to make it work.  The stock front wheel hub accepts the CBR bearings and I have Brembo snowflake rotors mounted to the hub.  The only concern I have is clearance of the spokes (wheels are not yet laced) to the brake calipers.  It may require me to mill part of the inside edges of the calipers to clear the spokes.  Alternatively, I am wondering if I can run the same set up with tubeless rims (Morris, Lester etc) but I want to find a set with either 18" front and rear or 17" front and rear; that's a challenge!

Tews, I am not familiar with the GSXR fork transplants. But I am guessing that you will need the top triple since    the forks are unlikely to have the same spacing between the tubes as your stock bike's triple.

It is cool you are going for the modern setup. I have the parts to do a R6/FZ6 conversion on my cb550k like FunJimmy's Cafe Interceptor. I just have to source and pay for the hub machining and axle spacers.

Looks like I will be sourcing a top triple today. Thanks for the input. I was planning on getting a harley narrow glide front wheel set up. Then have spacers machined for the hub.
