The end is near?
Has anyone told Tews that the last 20% of a build takes 80% of the time?!

Well it's time again for a cough cough, cafe build. I really do not like using the word cafe as it has become cliche' but it's what I am going for with this build.

Me, too...I propose the "old days" moniker be resurrected? When it was impractical to replace all the parts during a resurrection of XYZ bike (for financial or availability reasons) we called them "Lightened Customs". :D
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

thanks for the info on the craftsman lift, I'm going to pick one up so I can change my tires and brakes.

The prob with those lifts on our CBs is that they push up on the exhaust system, not the best, and removal of the exhaust is not always convenient, often. Of course if the project is at the sans exhaust stage, then alls well.

Harleys work well on them as the pipes are above the frame rails.

Thanks Ron, I hadn't even thought of that. I'll put it off for now, might not be worth having it just for assembly. I'll have to rig something up interim.

I used lag screws to mount a piece of angle metal to my garage rafters. Now I can hoist the bike into the air with a cable strap. Handy.

Well if I need to lift the front end I usually use my trusty 2x4 I cut to length to lift the front end up from under the neck.

I really thought I would have this finished by this weekend but I messed up. While installing my bronze bushings I made one crumble. Not a big deal as I ordered another set.

I want to install the exhaust and curious what you all do when installing on a fresh head?  I have the new copper washers. Do I use some type of sealant as well?

Those who have the motogp exhaust,  did it come with nuts to mount the flanges? I looked in my bag with springs and nothing.

The Motogpwerks pipes don't come with flange nuts. Just reuse the ones you had. No sealant on the copper crush washers or exhaust ports either. No need IMO. Just tighten the nuts evenly and to the correct torque spec. I can't remember what that value is off the top of my head. Others may be able to chime in. Excited to see it finished Tews!

+1 no sealant on the header.  I use a couple dabs of grease to hold the gaskets to the head, if necessary.

You might want to treat the pipes collars before you run them.  Heat makes them look very ugly on a nice looking bike

Tews - I install only the flanges without the pipe connected: it makes it much easier. I always buy new SS 6 mm nuts when I install an exhaust and put a tiny dab of anti-sieze on the stud threads.

By separating the flange from the pipe, you can easily install the copper gasket too. When all is in place, I attach the pipe by the springs, hooking the flange first, then pulling away from the motor. Wicked simple this way.

Thanks Cal! I will follow your advice!

Gold dude- a member has really helped me out with the exhaust to help preserve most of it's originality.

Bad part is this build will most likely be ridin' next season. Nights are down to 50 already.  My K1 has just over 1k for this season and August is always a hectic month on weekends with weddings and end of summer BBQs

Wow nice low mileage K1!

I put 100 miles a day, 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, and 10 months a year,  on my bikes :(

If I was single I would easily put 10k on a season but I try to be as involved with the family as I can. So anytime on the bike is really enjoyed.

Its only July dude, you never know when the gates of hell will reopen and we go back to the dreadful 90s. I'm hoping to get mine riding this season, lots of little things left to do and never enough time. When should I give up on this season? Mid Sept?

Tewes i got brand new flange bolts from Honda for like $15 when i put on the Lossa Exhaust. And Just before the i sold the bike i had the exhaust coated with a high temp satin finish.( i swear it made the bike run smoother.)

I'm finishing up the rear hub and have hit a snag. I bought the hub plate from a member last year thinking it was for a 550. I removed the brake spindle from on hub plate to the nice chromed one but it doesn't fit. I tried 2 other face plates and same issue with the chrome plate. None will work for it. I may have to use an old one and not this nice shiny one.
