If the shifting problem is all gears, most likely the problem is clutch related. Specific gears would be trans. And............oil type and viscosity does affect shifting. I did not touch one of my bikes this past winter either...Larry

Note the battery-powered tool...............Two garage buildings have burned/exploded a few miles from me over this past winter (will it ever end?) caused by spilled fuel and/or fumes that were ignited by the electrical discharge of a battery-powered shop tool. If your tool shows a flash when you release the trigger...........be warned.

The lower engine is back together. I find it funny yet I have a "glad I tore it apart moment". There are 2 dowels that go into the case where the main gear thing is and another in the other area. Not to accurate on the description but anyways when I put the engine together I didn't install. This time I did. Lower end is all buttoned up and this week I should get to the rest.

I also installed the new cam chain. The original was so stretched. Really shocking how much it was.

Goal is to have the engine done by Friday. Hopefully riding on Sunday...

Got to assemble the engine a little more today. My cam has some pitting as I posted on another thread. I'm really contemplating running it for the summer. Then spend some big bucks on new rockers and a brand new cam. Here is how the engine site today.

Engine was delivered to my house yesterday. My buddy Mike who has been helping rebuild the engine helped me get it in the frame. 2 people installation is much easier and less time consuming then taking the bike down to the frame. Adjusted valves and the cam chain. Buttoned up everything minus the carbs. I need to drop the needles on the carbs, order a battery and clean out the tank. Then it's on to riding!

That was the color they turned from being ceramic coated internally, Trad. They may not turn much further now, but it will be interesting to see the effect of it after some time.

This will be my last post prior to completion. Dropped the needles in the carbs to 4th notch. Installed carbs, airbox. Installed the 77 550 speedo and a 650 tach. My engine is installed but I am wondering if I remove my tach plug am I able to install the 650 tach gear into the engine or does the engine need the valve cover off?

Lastly I will have to run the spare tank until I coat the original tank with Caswell tank liner.

Here are my 2 tanks.

Lol, Sean the tank with decals has a bunch of pin holes. The other one has scratches but those should buff out.
