Points - where to get the real thing
« on: July 19, 2013, 01:39:13 PM »
I sent a message to South Sound Honda asking them to query Honda about who manufactures their point assemblies. I'm looking for the TEC points that are apparently so good. Here's the response:

Terry,

This is what I have found out.

CB750 points...
There are only 2 manufacturer of points, Hitachi and Toyo
The Hitachi points are no longer available as they supersede to the Toyo points.
The Toyo part numbers are...30203-300-154 and 30204-300-154

GL1000 points
There are also 2 manufactures of points, Toyo and Kokusan.
The Toyo points and no longer available as they supersede to the Kokusan points.
Their part numbers are...30203-292-003 and 30204-292-003

So is this the good stuff? If not, where does one get TEC point assemblies?

I found mine off of ebay.  They were TEC. I got the enitire points and plate and have had no problems with it.  It was unused.

I think the Hitachi points are fine.  (...But have no first hand experience)  The main thing is to not buy Daiichi...oh, and don't get excited that Sudco sells tune-up kits.  I did, and they just turned out to be re-packaged Daiichi...
If it works good, it looks good...

I believe carpy sells a complete tec points set (plate and all) for like $100. cheaper than I've seen them on some NOS sites.

There are a couple seller of TEC points on ebay, one has a set of TEC points for $35 or $39 shipped. The others are $49 for just the points. If you have the TEC plate you just need a new set of points and condensers and the felt...
