The CL 450 posted some low 0-60mph times in I think Cycle World.. I dont doubt it .
This discussion was about 0-60 between the 450 and the 750.
This. People started to talk around the point about vibration, what bike is "faster", and build quality (however wrong they are
, which is not what I'm asking for/discussing about. Though, it has been an interesting discussion, none-the-less.
I'm very happy with my K8 performance, especially after I got it back to 100% stock form (plus a K&N filter). Had it up to 100MPH on my trip for a few seconds, and it had plenty to spare (that's talking about "speed" though). I never heard that the later Cb750s are slower; I don't understand "why" if that's the case. I think the specs are still close to identical. Actually, I may have heard that the later CB750s are faster, but I could have heard wrong.
The CB450 and the CB750 are different bikes entirely, and I understand that there isn't a "BETTER" one. The CB450 feels QUICK. I manuever it, the bike doesn't manuever me. I feel a bit limitless on it, which probably can be a bad thing.
I feel that it's not going to tip or fall over with me around because I have 100% control on it.
The CB750 feels "fast" and "ballsy" and has plenty of "punch" but it also feels heavier, sluggish, and doesn't feel as "quick" or agile. It "feels" like a "motorcycle", and not a light-weight demon like the CB450 feels like.
I honestly felt that my CB450 felt like a bat that was flying straight out of hell by the seat of the pants feel. It was an awesome feeling. I love the "muscle punch" "cruiser" feeling of the CB750, but I really miss that light-weight, do-anything feeling of the CB450.
I wouldn't take my CB450 over my CB750 for going on longer trips, but that doesn't mean the CB450 couldn't do it with ease. That doesn't also mean that the CB750 is free of vibration (as Bill was saying) as I had to take a break from some handlebar vibration on the CB750 (though it just happened once).
I'm talking about 0-60 and 1/8 here. We never really answered this (we keep talking around the point). There's a consensus that the CB750 eats the CB450 in all performance metrics. The responders seem sure of this, some who have even had a CB450. But I'm not thoroughly convinced until I see some stronger data.
If someone had a performance sheet of the CB750 like I posted for the CB450, then that would answer it. I tried my best to do some research. I was only able to find the Youtube video of a '78 CB750 doing the 1/8 mile at a little over 10 seconds (recorded twice), which is slower than what Honda lists for the CB450. This doesn't answer the question, but it's the best I could find.
Remember, over 100 lbs less, and 100hp per liter. The CB450 is very impressive on paper. I was expecting a slow bike when I bought it, but I was very very impressed. I called my dad and said "This is not a toy".
