Having me race someone else is not necessarily going to completely answer this. You guys forget that I have a CB750 with 12,000 miles. I will have a rebuilt CB450 soon. You probably want to take rider skill out of the equation.

What do you mean by "Hot" CB750, or including having a CB450 race a stroked CB750? Sounds like the point of the thread is being continually missed.

So I already have both bikes right now. There is a raceway in Boise, ID. I plan on getting some performance times from both bikes, but it probably wont be until next year. I haven't done a 1/4 mile in awhile, so I cannot remember if 0-60 times are obtained.

Nope, testing a K8,(?) arguably the slowest CB750, against a much earlier CB450 is as bad as comparing a stock 450 against a "hot" 750. That's just "stacking the deck".

According to the spec sheet on the "CB450 stuff" site, the 1973 CB450's 0-60 MPH time is 6.3 seconds, and the August 1973 issue of Motor Cycle World's spec sheet quotes 4.9 seconds for the the CB750K3, so if your 450 is from 1973, then it should be compared to a 1973 CB750. That way we're comparing apples with apples. Cheers, Terry. ;D

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You know that comparing different magazines/sources is not apples to apples Terry.

Did everyone just read right over Team Hansen's reply?

btw, my CB450 is a '72. I had it listed as a '73 for awhile on here because that's what I thought it was. Haven't gotten around to revising the sig till about a week ago. :)

Yep, I read it mate, and that's why I recommend that you look at the CB450stuff spec sheet, because it quotes the CL450's 0-60 time as 4.8 seconds, but the heavier, higher geared CB450K3 is quoted as having a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds.

The fact is, the times quoted in any magazine story are questionable. It's not new that Honda (or anyone else) will provide a test bike that has been hotted up to manipulate actual figures, and at the same time, some test bikes are thrashed within an inch of their lives before they get to the strip, so the figures achieved may be significantly lower than a bike in better condition.

Any figure will be treated with some level of skepticism. My Triumph Rocket III can supposedly do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, (fastest 0-60 of any mass produced motorcycle in the world in 2004) but that doesn't mean that I could emulate that time, and to be honest, I wouldn't risk blowing it up trying. Cheers, Terry. ;D

That's why I think we can both agree: let's run some CB450s and CB750s at the track.

I dig that helmet and goggles that the rider as on in the sales brochure, I guess they were designed just for the CB450 because of their quickness and nimbleness and the high rate of speed they can obtain ::)

Dave, sounds like you had a better day than me.  I spent most of mine digging post holes for my fence in the rain.  I was looking forward to a warm shower when I was done.  To make matters worse I'm out of beer. :-\
